What were the limitations of Mandeleev\'s table and how did the modern periodic table solve them |
| Answer» Limitations of mendeleev’s classification :(i) He could not assign a correct position of\xa0hydrogen in his periodic table, as the properties\xa0of hydrogen resembles both with alkali metals as well as with halogens.(ii) The isotopes of the same element will be given\xa0different position if atomic number is taken as\xa0basis, which will disturb the symmetry of the\xa0periodic table.(iii) The atomic masses do not increases in a regular\xa0manner in going from one elements to the next. The various anomalies of Mendeleev include the position of hydrogen, anomalous pair of isotopes, position of lanthanides and actinides etc. These limitations were overcome in the modern periodic table by adopting Atomic number as the main criteria instead of atomic mass. | |
