Which process is used for obtaining a metal from its sulphide ore of least reactive metal? |
| Answer» Metals\xa0that aren\'t very\xa0reactive\xa0are placed low in\xa0the reactivity\xa0series. These\xa0metals\xa0can be reduced to\xa0metals\xa0by heating alone. For example, Mercury is procured from\xa0its ore, cinnabar (HgS), by\xa0the process\xa0of heating. Copper can also be\xa0obtained\xa0from\xa0its sulphide ore\xa0(Cu2S) by heating.\xa0Metals\xa0more\xa0reactive\xa0than carbon, such as aluminium, are\xa0extracted\xa0by electrolysis, while\xa0metals\xa0less\xa0reactive\xa0than carbon, such as iron, may be\xa0extracted\xa0by reduction with carbon. As gold is so unreactive, it is found as the native\xa0metal\xa0and not as a compound. It does not need to be chemically separated. | |
