While dilution of acids we should add acid in water, not water in acid. Why? |
|
Answer» Tq dear! Dilution of a concentrated acid is highly exothermic reaction and a lot of heat is generated .Care must be taken while mixing concentrated acid with water. The acid must always be added slowly to water with constant stirring .Water is added to concentrated acid the heat generated may cause the mixture to splash out and cause burns .The glass container may also break due to excessive local heating . Because the process of mixing the concentrated acid with water is highly exothermic , produces lot of heat. This heat change cab splash acid on our face or clothes and can do severe danage. So the dilution of concentrated acid is always done by adding concentrated acid to water gradually with stirring. |
