Answer» Metallic oxides are generally basic in nature, and when they mixed in water they forms a base.Non metallic oxides are generally acidic in nature and whey they mixed with water they form an acid .For example mgo when mixed with h20 it forms abse I.e mg(oh)2 And when so2 mixed with h20 it forms an acid ,I.e h2so3,sulphurous acid~~.
