Because metal form basic oxide and metal react with water to form metaloxide amd hydrogen gas.Ex: M-M+ + e- Because they loose electrons i.e they donate electrons and form positive ions. Because they always tends to donate electrons Because they lose electrons as they generally have 1,2 or 3 electrons in their outermost orbits.
