This is becausebleaching powder\xa0reacts with carbon dioxide from theatmosphere\xa0to produce calcium carbonate and chlorine gas. Bleaching powder, when exposed to air, reacts with atmospheric moisture to give out chlorine gas which causes the pungent smell. |
