Why does bleaching powder smell stongly of chlorine and does not dissolve completely in water |

Answer» The smell of the bleaching powder is strongly chlorine because they can contain the chlorine gas .It can not dissolve in water because in the preparation of the bleaching powder the use of the calcium .When the bleaching powder can under goes in the water then the calcium can react with the water to form the slacked lime which is commonly known as calcium hydroxide Its smell so because it contain clorine. It is insoluble in water because it contain calcium which is know for its insolubility in water It react with air to release chlorine and doesnot dissolve complete due to presence of unreacted lime ??
