Why it is advised that acid should be added to water not water to acid |
|
Answer» It\'s highly exothermic reaction. And if water is added to acid the concentration of acid is more when compared to water so there will be more production of "heat of hydration".Thus to avoid the possibility of any splash out or breaking of apparatus due to heat it is advised to add acid to water with continuous stirring. When acid is added in water it gets diluted but when water is added to acid ,a heavy exothermic reaction takes place that can cause damage. As acid may react vigorously.. |
