Why magnesium ribbon is cleaned before burnning it on the air |

Answer» It is cleaned to remove the layer of magnesium carbonate which gets coated after being in contact of air. So to make it react vigorously it is cleaned with sandpaper So that it burns vigorously in air Magnesium ribbon should be cleaned with sand paper before burning in air due to formation of white layer of magnesium oxide on its surface which hinders the burning of magnesium. Because magnesium ribbon reacts with oxygen present i air to form magnesium oxide which prevents it from proper burning hence it is cleaned before brning |
