Answer» Because it reacts with carbon dioxide I think so Sprry my answer was wrong...it is rubbed to remove the coating of mg co3..harsh is right... When mg is kept in air it reacts with air and forms magnesium oxide,hence before burning it is rubbeed to remove this layer For proper combustion
