Why non metals don\'t react with water |

Answer» Liquid\xa0water\xa0is held together by hydrogen bonds. (Liquid\xa0water\xa0has fewer hydrogen bonds than ice.) Oils and fats\xa0not\xa0have any polar part and so for them to dissolve in\xa0water\xa0they would have to break some of\xa0water\'shydrogen bonds.\xa0Water\xa0will\xa0not\xa0do this so the oil is forced to stay separate from the\xa0water. Non metals don\'t react with metal because non metals have less number of hydrogen ions than metals. |
