Why solid do not conduct electricity in ionic compound

Answer» Ionic compounds are formed by attraction between the positive and negative ions. These ions cannot move out of their fixed positions. Thus, solid ionic compounds do not conduct electricity. When ionic compounds are in molten state or dissolved in water forming a solution, the ions can move. Then ionic compounds conduct electricity.
