Write the reaction of hydrogen ion with water. Or how hydronium ion is formed? |
| Answer» A\xa0hydrogen ion is formed\xa0when a\xa0hydrogen\xa0atom loses an electron and therefore becomes positively charged (it has a charge of +1). A\xa0hydrogen\xa0atom is therefore often referred to as just a proton, as it is left with only one proton and no electrons, as a\xa0H\xa0atom only has one of each.\xa0It can be\xa0formed\xa0when an acid is present in\xa0water\xa0or simply in pure\xa0water. It\'s chemical formula is H3O+. ... As H+\xa0ions are formed, they bond with H2O molecules in the solution to\xa0form\xa0H3O+ (the\xa0hydronium ion). This is because\xa0hydrogen ions\xa0do not exist in aqueous solutions, but take the\xa0form\xa0of the\xa0hydronium ion, H3O+. | |
