Give the concept of 'ionic micelle' andlamellar micelle' |
Answer» Ans :- In aqueous solution, molecules having both polar or charged groups and non polar regions (amphiphilic molecules) form aggregates calledmicelles. In amicelle, polar orionic heads form an outer shell in contact with water, while non polar tails are sequestered in the interior. The dissolution of bilayer membranes is usually studied in an excess of solvent, either water or an electrolyte solution, starting from an aqueous dispersion of thelamellarphase in the form of liposomes (or vesicles), and ending with mixedmicellesbelonging to the L1phase. |

18 g of glucose, CgHi2Os is dissolved in 1 kg of water in a saucepan. ExampleAt what temperature will water boil at 1.013 bar? K, for water is 0.52K kg mol |
Answer» Moles of glucose = 18 g/ 180 g mol–1 = 0.1 molNumber of kilograms of solvent = 1 kgThus molality of glucose solution = 0.1 mol kg-1For water, change in boiling pointÄTb = Kb × m = 0.52 K kg mol–1× 0.1 mol kg–1= 0.052 KSince water boils at 373.15 K at 1.013 bar pressure, therefore, the boiling point of solution will be 373.15 + 0.052 = 373.202 K. |

4 Meemine:Flastics as Materials of Choice4 Reasoning Tyge QuestionsPlestes are used to make containers for storing household articles. Why? |
Answer» They are cheaper than other materials .They are transparent which makes the food stored in them easier to be identified. They are better than glass as they don't break easily. Also they are non corrosive to any kind of chemicals. But the main thing is they are bad for our environment which we don't see. |

Answer» Rutherford's scattering experiment: Rutherford's model of an atom : Ernest Rutherford was interested in knowing how the electrons are arranged within an atom.Rutherford designed an experiment for this. In this experiment, fast moving alpha (α)-particles were made to fall on a thin gold foil. He selected a gold foil because he wanted as thin a layer as possible. This gold foil was about 1000 atoms thick. α-particles are doubly-charged helium ions. Since they have a mass of 4µ, the fast-moving α-particles have a considerable amount of energy. It was expected that α-particles would be deflected by the sub-atomic particles in the gold atoms. Since the α-particles were much heavier than the protons, he did not expect to see large deflections. But, the α-particle scattering experiment gave totally unexpected results . Observations of Rutherford's scattering experiment: As we can see in Fig. Most of the fast moving α-particles passed straight through the gold foil. Some of the α-particles were deflected by the foil by small angles. Surprisingly one out of every 12,000 alpha particles appeared to rebound. Conclusion of Rutherford's scattering experiment: Most of the space inside the atom is empty because most of the α-particles passed through the gold foil without getting deflected. Very few particles were deflected from their path, indicating that the positive charge of the atom occupies very little space. A very small fraction of α-particles were deflected by very large angles, indicating that all the positive charge and mass of the gold atom were concentrated in a very small volume within the atom. |

What is Tollen's reagent ? Write one usefulness of this reagent |
Answer» Tollens' reagent is a chemical reagent used to determine the presence of aldehyde, aromatic aldehyde, and alpha-hydroxy ketone functional groups. The reagent consists of a solution of silver nitrate and ammonia. It was named after its discoverer, the German chemist Bernhard Tollens. Tollens' reagent can be used to distinguish ketone vs aldehyde. Tollens' reagent gives a negative test for most ketones, with alpha-hydroxy ketones being one exception |

(Aniline is less basic than methyl amine. Why ?) |
Answer» The benzene ring in aniline is electron withdrawing in nature. It withdraws the lone pair of electrons of the nitrogen and hence, is less basic. The basic strength (of some compounds) is determined by the capacity of the compound to donate the electron pair. In methylamine, the methyl group attached is an electron donating group. It increases the electron density on the nitrogen atom. This makes the nitrogen to donate the electron more easily in methyl amine than in aniline.Hence, aniline is less basic than methyl amine |

Methyiamine)What is carbyl amine reaction (carblamine test)? |
Answer» The carbylamine reaction, also known as Hoffman's isocyanide test is a chemical test for detection of primary amines. In this reaction, the analyte is heated with alcoholic potassium hydroxide and chloroform. If a primary amine is present, the isocyanide is formed which are foul smelling substances. |

Write shape and bond angle of tertiary amine |
Answer» tertiary amine contains three alkyl groups attached to the nitrogen. A quaternary amine contains four alkyl groups attached to the nitrogen. Primary, secondary, and tertiary amines are sp3hybridized, have a trigonal pyramidal shape, and a bond angle of 107o. Quaternary amines are sp3hybridized, have a tetrahedral shape, and a bond angle of 109.5o. Primary and secondary amines have intermolecular hydrogen bonding. Primary and secondary amines have boiling points and melting points between ethers and alcohols. Tertiary amines have boiling points and melting points lower than primary and secondary amines with similar molecular weights. Amines have fishy smells. |
