Bought myself this software and tried to install the same. I am not sure if I did the right THING as I find it no where on my computer. Sorry, I am not computer smart. As I understand, this is better than the windows firewall.

Anyway, I was not ABLE to connect to the INTERNET,maybe, because of this or OTHERWISE. So I tried to uninstall the software but could not find the uninstall icon. Deleted it manually and I am sure something if left of the PROG on the computer.

Can someone help me on this

Alan <&GT;< media maker will not compress the video unless told to do so. It may easily be 38 GIG or more.

I had some footage of a snow trip i EDITED with windows movie maker and b4 publishing to dvd it was 112GB.

how long is the movie? you may have to do it in segments or buy an external harddrive for that project.

External HDD's are really cheap.

And easy to use just plug it in and your cooking!!Maybe see if you can save a short 2 - 3 minute movie. It should be a lot smaller than 38 GB and therefore it should save, assuming everything else is ok...

What operating system does your computer run now? Are you trying for a dual-boot kind of setup where you can choose the operating system? It does not. If the computer already BOOTS up to an operating system, you can plug in the external hard drive and format it to whatever file system you want to use (probably NTFS) and start storing data and files.

I've re-authored many dvds with dvd shrink connecting to NERO 7 and they've all played in my entertainment center dvd player (samsung dvd-5500).

This weekend I TRIED dvd flick for the first time and then re-authored the converted files in dvd shrink. the resulting dvds played in my computer dvd drive through PowerDVD, but not in my stand alone dvd player (the samsung). I got this error message upon inserting the dvd:

This disc cannot be played.
Please check the TV system.

Any suggestions?

corethis message occurs when you burn a dvd to the wrong format (IE: PAL or NTCS)
Depending where you are from you will need to burn to ntsc if America or PAL, like me, if you are from Australia.

Also make sure your dvd's are DVD-R or DVD+R and they are compatible with your dvd player

The computer drive will probably support most formats where as your stand alone (samsung player) may not.

Make sure your dvds are compatible and try burning it again making sure you select the correct NTSC or PAL where applicable to you.

Hope it works!thanks! I won't get to trying to re-convert until the weekend. i did check dvd flick's project settings and it appears that the default SETTING is PAL (and i'm in N. America), so it seems like the puzzle's solved.

dvd flick had 2 other options. ntsc and ntsc-film. do you know the difference?

the ntsc ratio is more like 4:3

Absolutely no idea what language it is unfortunately. I do know she is using MS Office 2003 which is what I use. I have gone through every font available but without success. She is going to love this if I can't work it out.

Characters in the middle most likely come from some non-Latin language.

Have spoken to her today and it appears that she is not as clever as I thought she was. She tells me that when the original email was sent from Yahoo it had conventional text on all the lines. She has no idea what happened to it to CAUSE squares to appear by the time I received it. She is coming round tomorrow afternoon so we will have a look at her email account setting to see what happened. Having said all that she achieved what she set out to, she confused me well and truly. Will update if I can work out what went wrong. Thank you to all the people who posted with help.

RAM is dirt cheap these DAYS and you should only use what the MBoard calls for...
To check this visit Crucial.com and RUN the online scan of your machine.
You don't have to buy from them but it will give you the exact specs you need....

I am trying to run linux on one of my olf computers (windows 95) and for some reason when i turn on the power nothing COMES up on the screen and the computer its self beeps. I'm a newbie to downloading videos. I have been reading up on BitTorrent and P2P technology. There is a lot of terminology to digest. I get the feeling that it works well, is FAST, free and there is a wider and larger choice of videos to choose from.

I understand that you have to:
1. Select a bittorrent client which provides you with the program.
2.Then you have to find a torrent search engine to find movies in the torrent format.
3. Choose a movie, download via P2P and hope it does not have any malware attached.

Looking at the BitTorrent Client info on Wikipedia shows quite a few BitTorrent Clients.

BitTorrent6.0, BitTornado, burst and Azureus seem to be recommened.

Wikipedia shows the followiing search engines:
* Btjunkie
* Demonoid
* FlixFlux
* Isohunt
* Mininova
* The Pirate Bay
* TorrentSpy
NuTorrent (for adult stuff)

For security programs i have Norton IS 2008 and Spyblaster

I read that up to 35% of the internet traffic could be bittorrent content so apparently it is quite popular.

I have two questions:
1. Security. Are there some other freeware programs that I should install before installing a bittorrent client and a torrent search engine?
2. Which client programs and search engines are the best.

I must say that I was shocked that this is a taboo subject on his forum. Is this the case on all forums? Surely there is no legal precedent for holding a forum administrator legally liable for his staff members giving an opinion on a subject.

I read up some on the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). It would seem to me that there is a big DIFFERENCE between the actual "dissemination of technology, devices, or services that are USED to circumvent measures that control access to copyrighted works" and giving a member of your forum your opinion on the subject matter. Are the staff members of all forums intimidated to this degree?


And by the way, Wikipedia has plenty of information on bittorrent technology and even gives NAMES and links to websites that use bittorrent technology. Both clients and networks. What is different about them? I don't get it!

No, I'm talking about Vista installation DVD...yes... but i got it through dell so it a disk that says "operating SYSTEM reinstallation dvd windows vista home premium...."This is gonna restore your computer to its original state - as it came from the store.
Try to create new Restore Point, and see, if you can use this new one.so RESET everything and use the disk as a restore point?OK. If you don't have any IMPORTANT data on your computer, boot with DVD, you received, and it'll restore computer to its original state. my brother has mozilla firefox and at startup it automatically launches and it slows everything down to a crawl. DLoad and install Startup CPL from Mike Lin...
This will add a Startup Icon in Control Panel where you can safely control what loads on startup...
Be careful what you turn off though ...you can RENDER Windows un-bootable by turning off the wrong items.
FireFox is safe to disable.i figured it out thanks though it was set up to start up in the firefox settings and i turned it off and now it works just fine I'm UNCLEAR on this...where in FireFox can you configure it to automatically start upon bootup ? ?ive looked on the options menu for the latest firefox and 3.0 beta and there is no mention of this feature.
are you sure its not the Firefox preloader which can start on startup....
just a suggestionYeah, there's nothing like that in 2.0.0.14. The only thing that mentions "startup" is "ALWAYS check to see if Firefox is the default browser at startup" and that only has to do with when the browser is started, not Windows.This is why i suspected a Red Herring...as a matter of fact i can't recall any version of FireFox that had this option to automatically load at startup....

Well, as I SAID, the overall image, in it's present size, does not fit in a normal Word Window in a HORIZONTAL orientation. So, I don't know what else to suggest.What I need is: imagine a printout of this drawing on a normal A4 (which is what it is right? The page setup has A4). And now rotate the printed hard copy to a landskate. So when I open the word document, I want to see the same drawing in landscape like I would have done with hard COPIES. If it fits vertically on A4 portrait, it must fit horizontally exact the same way on A4 landscape. hey gev have a look at the attachment and see if this is what you wanted mate.

I wana know that why we must write the 4 number in the "Number of loaded Sectors" and why we can't write the 1, 2 or 6 numbers instead of 4 ?

It is 4 because the IMAGE size is greater than 2.88 MB

The number of loaded sectors specifies the number of 512-byte sectors to be loaded from the boot image.

1 specifies a 1.2 MB floppy disk image (512-byte boot image),
2 specifies a 1.44 MB floppy disk image (1024-byte boot image),
3 specifies a 2.88 MB floppy disk image (a 1536-byte boot image),

I got an update from windows a few days ago about needing an update for microsoft office 2003. I clicked on the update and it told me that i needed the disk to continue with the update, which i dont have. It says the registration ran out in 2004???

Now i cant do anything with my word documents because i NEED to put in the 25 key number in, which once again i dont have. Any suggestions would be most welcome as i desperatley need word for my work.

If you had an Office CD and key, you'll need to find it. We can't give you any method to circumvent this.I just wrote out detailed steps how to get around this and then remembered that "policy".

But it sounds like you had a 1 year licence to office 2003.

You may need to extend your licence.

Or even buy office 2007.

Meaning it only BLOCKS incoming threats. If something does get in there is nothing stopping it from sending information back out. Comodo in advanced mode blocks threats in both directions so it is much better.

I have office 2003 installed on my asus laptop with windows xp. When I X out of outlook it continues to check my email every 3 minutes. It is set to send and receive every 3 minutes but it is only supposed to check while outlook is open. I went to my task manager and found that outlook.exe is still running after i X out. I compared it to another computer and outlook.exe is not in the task manager once you X out of outlook. All office and windows updates are done and this is a fresh copy of XP SP2 installed on this laptop. Please help. Thanks...Is Outlook in your startup folder ? ?No, startup is actually empty. I usually wipe the computer clean and start over about every 6 to 10 MONTHS. Kind of particular about what i put on it. This has me confused. Strange indeed.

yeah, i think i know.

Press alt+ctrl+S (TOOLS > send recieve settings > Define S/R groups)

down the bottom you have the send and recieve options when outlook is offline.

tick the top box and unselect the bottom box.

You could even try ticking the send when outlook closes automatically box (bottom box of online send/recieve options)

then it will send all mail you have made in the PAST 3 MINS and it wont try to keep sending any unsent mail after it closes.

You must be able to make it not run in the background after it closes. Just found out mine runs in background after closing at work . So im working on that now It sounds like Outlook is still running even when you close the app.

Try clicking file and than close and log off. Don't just "X" out of it. Than open the task manager and look at the processes running. See if Outlook.exe is still running.

our tutor gives each of us an EXCEL file which contains hundreds of rows of data, and we are required to FIND which row contains a specific data, say the address of David Howard from the file.

The excel file contains a few columns which headings are like these:
Number Surname Lastname Addr1 Addr2 Tel

I have tried the Find function in Excel but it only allows one word to be entered into the Find What Field. It seems to me that it is helpless to the user who wants to locate a specifc data across more than one column. Do you know if there is any tool in MS Excel which can help me out?

Please help if you could!If the spreadsheet is set out as you described above all you would need to do is to type in the SEARCH field "David" or"Howard" being as there is only a few columns your information would be quite easy to find.are you allowed to export into MS Access??

After several tests I have decided this isn't a hardware problem...so here we go

only during specific games, (especially ESF and Dungeon Runners, in both OpenGL and D3D) my keyboard and mouse have a odd tendency to "lock" for a few seconds or more...rendering me dead or about to die

However...games like GTA:SA and Full Specrum Warrior work flawlessly even THOUGH they obviously put alot more stress on components.

it always happens when moving my character, for instance I will be swooping forward with Goku in ESF 1.3 and all of a sudden my mouse stops letting me move the cursor and i continue to move forward even if i let go of the buttons on the keyboard, or in dungeon runners, moving the camera with the a and d keys, if i do not tap them, but hold it down for a second(and release it) it will continue for a random amount of time.

it isn't a Lag issue because everything else around me moves fine, and my FPS count is always above 30, and it never happens when WORD processing, i can hold the key as long as I like but it will only repeat until i let it go.

I have tried another keyboard (it only happens when moving with the keyboard, not the mouse)

the weird thing is, while this is occurring i cant move my mouse at all, its just locked where it was, until the keyboard keeps "repeating" my keypress

Any ideas are appreciated!!

Intel Celeron 2.5ghz 400/128/1.5I have found with some games when too many keys are pressed at the same time, one of them (usually the first one pressed in the combo) locks. I don't get it with all games, but I have experienced this with World of Warcraft and Battlefield II. I've never had a problem with the Halo games, Tron 2.0, Star Wars: Battlefront II, or Quake 4, all of which require just a much multi-key pressing as the others.

The only way I know of to FIX this is to press that key again so it registers as pressed and released.

I don't know if this is the exact problem you're having, and I don't have any of those games you mentioned, but it sounds similar. But I think it's just limited to certain games, something to do with how they use the keyboard.Hey Quaxxo

after my character stops moving, it will then take another jolt forward, as if it had been buffering up keystrokes, and then SLOWLY playing them out?

so ill be stuck moving for a little bit, during that time i will double tap all four directional keys in order, (w d s a) and wait....sure enough, once the "lag" has finished, Goku will then quickly shoot off in each of those directions in order :S

I installed thunderbird to handle my email(g mail).
I SELECTED Firefox as my default browser.Now I cannot use my hotmail or aol email programs to send.I hav'nt received any either,so maybe that is UNAVAILABLE also.
My new g mail does'nt work.I have a USERNAME and PASSWORD,but Thunderbird does not accept it.
I have a MASTER PASSWORD,and searched my password bank.None are listed for Firefox or Thunderbird.Could that be my problem?

FrankI'm not familiar with Thunderbird but it's only logical to assume that using it for email usually means setting up a POP3 mail account in Thunderbird. Some sites don't allow saving a pass word. But there is an EASY WORK AROUND, go here and read it.

For good security its not advisable to save passwords, like bank accounts,credit cards etc.

recently got a Logitech Quickcam (which has a built in mic) for my NOTEBOOK. Whenever I use it with Windows Live the first TIME I connect, everything is perfect. However, every time I reconnect after that it lowers my volume whenever the mic picks up a sound. It also says that Windows Live had to be shut down for trying to access sensitive files and something built into Vista called Data EXECUTION Prevention (DEP), but it never shuts it down. I have went into this DEP's settings, but I can't get it to ignore Windows Live because it's not an .exe extension, even though it shuts down msnmsgr.exe! It's not a major problem, but it gets REALLY annoying and effects me from having a good conversation.

I have tried vertually everything I can think of to stop this from happening, as I'm fairly handy with computers, but nothing SEEMS to work. I reinstalled the software, tinkered with my settings in sound and microphones. I even tried Logitech's forums, but they were absolutely no help.

If anyone could help me, that would be awesome.I don't have Windows Live myself, but I thought I would get you started.

I don't get an error message persay, it just states in a little window near the task bar that Windows Live had to be shut down.Is this Windows Live 8 or 9 or whatever? (what VERSION)

The problem reporter pops up and states: "Windows Live Messenger was closed. To help protect your computer, Data Execution Prevention has closed Windows Live Messenger. Click here to learn more."
Clicking there just tells you what DEP is, and how to disable it, but it does not do so with msnmsgr.exe. Also, this does not close the program like it says.

I have a spam program through my server called Death2Spam which is great.

However, I also just recently downloaded SpamMATTERS through our GOVERNMENT agency.
This program is basically to be able to inform the Government of vicious spam, but it is now conflicting with my other program and bypassing it and allowing spam into my email program..

Usually, all emails first GO through Death2Spam and the spam emails stay there whilst the NORMAL ones will download.

However, now the spam emails are totally bypassing D2S and coming straight through to OE.
So it could be another problem.

Tbird had a GLITCH and I Deleted it from Add/Remove then re-downloaded it, but it was the same place I left-off, before deletion.

I Searched, "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\", but didn't see Tbird in the list that came up, so, that's as far as I could get, as that's as techy - as I'm not.

I don't know what to do now. I clicked on a link I thought WOULD be helpful. It was MozillaZine and I didn't understand a word of it. My apologies for that, but I still need help with this and am 'out-of-my-realm', here.

A while ago I wrote a document in Word 2003. Now when I open the document all I see are weird SYMBOLS and characters instead of the English words I had typed before. I've been told that the problem is that the Word 2003 documents are not opening correctly and I need to change the settings, HOWEVER I'm not sure how to do this.

I would try reinstalling it completely.


Also, make sure that you arent opening the document in Microsoft Works, a similar program, since they use different formats. you can try installing open office to see if it has same issue, so you know what's going on......Thanks for the responses. I talked to a Microsoft support guy and he said that the Office suits are not regestered properly in the computer regestry and that the Word 2003 documents are not opening correctly and the settings need to be changed.

I don't know what a computer regestry is and don't know how to change the settings for Word 2003, but hopefully that will help shed some light on the problem....Removin normal.dot in Word.

This has been known to fix this issue.

When starting uTorrent 1.1 (and 1.1.1 dev) on My Toshiba LAPTOP Windows XP x64,
the app fails to load when DEP PROTECTION (no execute) is TURNED on (turned on for all applications).
To get it to WORK again I had to add an exception for uTorrent in DEP settings.
After that it works just FINE.

Trying to customize my START menu a little and I want to remove this pane, PLACES, so its thinner. A lot like the old windows start menu (windows 98 i think). I know you can choose to use the old one but it's not what I want.

How can I get the full drive size back after repartitioning?
I've search the web for a solution but they come with the Linux CD, as far as I know you can only use that to repartition your drive into smaller PIECES. Or am I wrong?
Well basicly the problem is, when I first got my Laptop, I partitioned it into 3 drives 2 of 25GB and 1 of 30GB. 30GB for C drive was enough at that time for me, but now that I'm having biger PROGS like adobe premiere elements and stuff, I need to create a new folder in D to store program files there.
And now that I'm reformatting my PC to get a fresh start (as its getting too slow for me)
I THOUGHT it would be the perfect time to fix this.
Maybe it gets removed when you reformat it properly? Because I use my CD I got with my laptop to reformat it and then it doesn't fix it.

Does anyone know how to get rip of the crappy partitioning?

Jonas You could try GParted. It is a free partition editor.
It has a LiveCD version which has always worked well for me.
It can create, delete, shrink, expand, move, and copy partitions.Thnx but when I download it, I get losts of files and I dno what to do there is no installer?? It's really strange

So I got given a 4GB Laser Flash drive for my birthday, and i have the ENTIRE portable APPS selection on it, INCLUDING keepass but that only keeps passwords, not files.

So what I am looking for, is a freeware (of course) app that will allow me to password protect my flash drive, but will still auto-run the portable apps tray menu upon INSERTION, after I put the password in.

I did come across TrueCrypt but it didn't seem to support auto-run after TYPING in the password

If you can even find a free web service (besides 110MB) that allows you to upload that much I'd be surprised.

37MB is ridiculously large for anything. It's BIGGER then the windows media player installer, for example.37MB gif...

That's like downloading 3 Youtube videos on high quality

If you have photoshop, try import it as a .gif and as animation, and re-save for web

Has anyone come across this peculiar problem with Adobe InDesign CS4? I have 5.4Gb free space on D, the program needs only 1.2Gb, but it will not INSTALL as it says I don't have enough room! A screen shot is attached... it shows clearly I have enough room to install it...

I actually had it installed and working fine but I removed it to re-install it without some components (didn't need them) and now, it seems to think I don't have enough space on the disk.

if i remember correctly, Adobe Products (such as photoshop, indesign etc,) Use c: for shared components.

Also if that's not an issue...try getting the adobe cleaner, but note this may remove EVERY adobe design programs you may have eg Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrate...

other then that I have no clue what's causing that.

I have McAfee antivirus (i know, i've heard it's bad) free with our ISP, Comcast.

However, I had to re-format my c:\ drive and re-install WINDOWS xp to get rid of the bugs that I couldn't get rid of.

Now, when I try downloading & re-installing McAfee Security Suite, it'll go through the download process, but then when it gets to installation, it stops and says something like "installation failed. try restarting your computer and install security suit again" or something. I've restarted my pc several times (after installing the windows updates i needed), and tried installing the program again and again, but STILL nothing.

any ideas on what could be the problem?

I'm not happy with McAfee firewall, don't know if this sounds right to you Broni but if I unstall something & it attempts to connect to the internet, McAfee will block it, but sometimes when I remove something, whatever I remove does get outbound access (you know like when the program developers want your feedback).

Also some online help files - McAfee doesn't ask for my permission to allow the program outbound access.
