All or any of these could be used to control some batch files and build a database and find duplications in the database.
But what about file size? Date?
And once the duplications are found, what kind of report should be generated?

Not knowing what the OP needs to do, my typical response is use more hardware. Hardware is cheaper tan working by the hour. This  poblem would take me at lest three hours on a good day. If I pay myself $41 per hour, it comes to over $120. For that amount of money I buy a portable 1TB external drive at the local Walt-Mart.

You'll NEED to move that DLoad to a working machine to properly BURN a bootable install CD...   I've already done that. Now i'm trying to get it to download to my other computer and work. Nontheless, I recieved the actual ubuntu  cd in the mail today. I downloaded the alternate just in CASE that's what I needed and got the same thing about kernel panic. .-----?EITHER the RAM and/or the hard drive on that system has issues...
DLoad and run MemTest and the diagnostics from the hard drive manuf. website.

It's one or the other...maybe both.yess you can install on another partition..

For reference:
LINUX VERSIONS can boot from a CD and run in RAM. But very old PCs never boot from a CD, only the floppy or Hard drive. There are, in fact, floppy drive boot loaders for Linux that let you bring up the rest of the Linux system from the CD. Once that is done., you can copy Windows  documents to a blank floppy drive.

Have u tried slaving it to a desktop....? hence that way u will be able to access all the programs installed?You can not clone to a internal drive.
The internal drive is the system drive.
Doing a clone means doing the whole thing.

An alternative is doing a partition copy, if the drive has enough space for another partition. A partition copy is not the same as a clone. Unless there is one one partition.

Due to a suggestion by BC_Programmer I appear to have discovered the cause of the problem, and the simple, if inconvenient, solution follows directly from this.  (I didn't have do anything remotely difficult or that was likely to be irreversible, thankfully)

Forgetting DaveLembke's advice, having connected my PS/2mouse and keyboard, I started uninstalling the USB drivers, this time including the seemingly PCI ones.  When I uninstalled the one that corresponded to my wireless kb/mouse, I couldn't do anything more apart from power down because I found that PS/2 kb/mouse were not working  .

OK, so finally when I rebooted again, the computer went through the process of reinstalling the USB hardware and drivers.  I now connected a flash drive to the USB, it had to reinstall it, but there was no "This device can perform faster....etc" message  I ejected and tried it again with the same result !

Now the Device Manager looked like figure ScrSh_HWM_USB_S5160UK_PS2_010314.JPG (attached).  As a reminder, this is very similar to Dev Mngr of my a405.uk (attached), which had the same PS/2 mouse/kb (a405uk_DevMgr_USBcontrollers_270214.JPG), and importantly has the device 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller 24CD displayed, whereas with the USB wireless mouse/kb in the S5160UK this Enhanced controller is not found (ScrSh_HWM_USB.JPG) (attached)

I am sure I don't understand it; my USB kb/mouse is a PCLINE PCL-K350,  and a quick look around did not say anything its USB 2.0 or USB1.1 capability or compatibility.

This a bit inconvenient because I have one set of PS/2 stuff, AD the wireless/USB mouse/kb was much easier to use.

But there were some other things I had to try first....

As my wireless USB kb/mouse were bought considerably after the computer, I'd be surprised if that was a USB1.1 sub-system, but stranger things have happened. Also, I don't know if it is coincidental that the PCI connected USB Controllers in Dev Mngr have gone away.  Would my PCI modem still work for example ? (not that I see myself using it)

...I have looked in BIOS setup, and I did not find anything about USB except legacy, set to auto/enable/disable.  I tried all of these without any change.....

I measured the transfer rate from my HD to an external one for 490498944 bytes; it took 8 mins 16 secs, a transfer rate of ~7.9Mb/s, good for USB 1.1, pretty poor for USB 2.0

A USB device that is connected to a USB 2.0 hub is not detected in Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, or Windows Server 2003 x64 versions

To me it doesn't actually sound like a memory-related issue, 400MB of RAM usage isn't that much for a browser these days, certainly not enough to cause it to hang or unexpectedly close down.

Also, to clarify, when I said other branches of Firefox - they're separate projects run by different developers, it's more like a fork of the Firefox project, I just couldn't think of the right word at the time heh.  Working the late shift does that to me sometimes

As for alternative suggestions, I use Chrome at work because we only deploy an old, buggy version of Firefox, I don't use Chrome at home because an add-on I don't want to go without isn't available for it.  uBlock Origin is available for Chrome though and that's my second most valued add-on, so maybe give Google Chrome a try, it's regularly updated and I haven't seen many issues with it personally.Calum. I know that feeling. LoL My friend/boss recently brought me 20+ laptops, 8 aio hp/compaq desktops, and 3 desktops to sort, diagnose, rebuild or pull good parts, scrap, and recycle. I stayed up almost all night that evening and next. He said I could have some of the good stuff and to put the rest on our eBay stores. It is a challenge, and it is fun. I've always been a night person. It just feels different and better to me. I know the feeling of sleep debt. LoL Sometimes, I don't sleep until I absolutely have to. I was thinking about rolling back Firefox to an older version that the problem doesnt happen with, but for the fact that for me its only the INITIAL first start of firefox that I get this issue on MULTIPLE systems and the problem goes away until computer rebooted in which the crash condition is random, I have just dealt with it. Glad to see that you found a work around with Chrome. Myself if I had the severity of problems you had I would have uninstalled version 45 and installed 42 or 43 and then have it set to not automatically update. I dont care for chrome. But thats just my preference.Waterfox released an upgrade to version 46.0.1 the other day, and fingers crossed, I'm seeing greatly reduced RAM usage, been hovering around 600MB for the last few days on the same browser session whereas previously I'd be seeing 1.2-1.5GB or possibly higher by now.

This is getting on my nerves!  I am having issues adding contacts to Live Messenger, but only on one machine. I can go to ANOTHER machine with WLM installed and add just fine, but then they do not show up on the problem system.  

I have uninstalled WLM, but when I reinstall it, it looks the same as before I removed it (with the same problem too).  It knows my login, my display pic is the same, my contacts are arranged the same.  What gives? Where is this data STORED?  How do I GET a FRESH install of WLM and get rid of this issue?

I fixed my Outlook 98 problem, now I am trying to import TEXT files from Notepad to outlook 98 contacts. This text is contacts that I moved there when I had outlook 97. I go into "Import from another program","tab separated (windows),Browse for the file, click on Contacts (location to import to). I get a box that has "Import contacts.txt into contact folder, when I click on that option it gives me a warning box that says The requested fields listed below were not detected in the file you are importing. Please add the fields to the first ROW of your file and import again.  There is nothing listed below? What am I doing wrong? Can I sync my contacts in my Palm back to Outlook 98 without loosing them on my Palm. I am a new Palm owner. I started my New Year with the resolution to get organized, and I keep running into brick walls. Maybe I'll go on a diet instead, it may be easier!You never POSTED a reply to my last post in your other thread on the problem of installing Outlook 98.  And, now I know you did get it INSTALLED.  How about posting a reply there explaining how you resolved that?  We like feedback in here.  Did my comments in that thread help resolve the problem or did you discover some other way?

Regarding the question at hand here, does your text file, the ONE you exported from Outlook 97 have column headings in it?  Did you add column heading fields to the first row of your text file and try the import again, as the message advised you to do?I'm not sure what they mean by column headings. I just entered my client info in contacts of Outlook 97, and saved them in Notepad.

I have windows XP with the latest version of IE. I have office 97 installed, and currently purchased outlook 98 to be compatable with my Palm. When I try to install outlook 98 I get "could not create Microsoft outlook internet settings profile".  Can anyone help? Now you say you are the only user well if so is there two accounts on your computer?.  The one you use and the administrator's?  You got to do what Neil has suggested so check accounts again and find out how many you have and if you are the only user it has to be an administrator account.I had this same problem and had to go into Control Panel to remove the program that kept trying to install. It has solved the problem.

I have an excel spreadsheet that is 1.6mb and when i try to open it, it takes over 3 minutes to open. I don't know what the problem with this file is as i am able to open files in excel that are bigger then this one. Has anyone ever seen this and does anyone know of a fix. I am opening it from local drive and am running win2k with 512mb 80gb p4 3.0. Excel 2000 sp-3.

JUPPEStill, this seems odd.  I've used filters in quite a few Excel files and NEVER noticed it made any DIFFERENCE on time needed to open the file.  Do you have thousands of records in that Excel file?

It may just be your internet CONNECTION though, or your type of connection.

Recently i downloaded UTorrent. I relised i need to open my ports (because i have a ROUTER).

To do this i was GOING to need some help. So i searched it in google and found a site that guides you throught it.

So i followed the steps carfully. and i was sure i had done EVERYTHING right, but when i open Utorrent it says my ports are still not open.

So i went back to the site and did the whole process again to make sure i didnt make any mistakes. and utorrent is still saying my ports are NOT open.

I have some videos that are in AVI format, and when I try to play them in Winamp or in Windows Media Player, I get audio playback, but no video. Winamp says that it is using an AVI splitter filter, and i THOUGHT that might be why, but that was a DEAD end. Any suggestions? midnightfire.......  try using VLC player and see if that player will play it ok .....

I just purchased a Lenovo T60 laptop with Windows XP and have loaded it with Office XP PRO (Outlook 2002).  I've copied my Outlook folder (containing three files extend.dat, mailbox.pst and outlook.pst) from my old computer to my new computer, and placed the Outlook folder in My Documents (a tip I read somewhere for easier BACKUP of Outlook).  

TWO questions:

1) What do I do next to get Outlook reading the data files (calendar, email, contacts and tasks)?

2) In copying the files, an extra extension was automatically added to the email filename (mailbox.pst.pst).  Can I simply RENAME the file, dropping the extra extension?  This only happened to that file, not the other two.  Go figure.

KristinYes, I believe you need to rename the mailbox.pst.pst to mailbox.pst   Then, try importing the .pst files into Outlook.  To do this, go to File, Import and Export, select Import from another program or file, click Next, and select the .pst file(s) from the list in the box.  Thanks.  Just about everything imported beautifully.  The exception:  the 21 folders I had created to organize Inbox messages, and all of the messages within those folders.  Any thoughts on how to also import those folders?Try this.  Go back to your old computer and export your Inbox again.  I'm looking at Outlook 2003 here, so I'm assuming your version is quite similar.  To export, go to File, Import and Export, select Export to a file, click Next, select Personal Folder File (.pst), click Next, select Inbox, check the box at the bottom of that panel for Include SUBFOLDERS, and proceed.  Then, import that file into the new computer.Problem solved!  A huge thank you!  This was my first time using this forum, and I was very impressed.  I'll be back.

Ive been trying to print a document in word with the background fill effect - i can do this but it DOESNT appear as the print preview suggests. I intend to have a single fill effect ranging ACROSS a single page - but INSTEAD i get a single page tiled with the fill effect over and over RUINING its effect. This is for my Job resame so is very IMPORTANT. Thanks for all comments.

I inadvertantly happened to be pretending to be FLASH and help a COLLEAGUE change her font in outlook and somehow her month by month calender in outlook has now BECOME enormous. I attach a picture.

You can't right click on the calender nor does the Tools/Options font setting seem to MAKE a monkey's difference.

I'd appreciate any help.

I had wrote an video file on CD but when i tried  to add other video file the program ASK me to insert empty disc .The same happen when i tried to add AUDIO file on Audio Disc.What to do to write more then one file on disc ( to add files).I have USING Nero 7Don't finalise the disk if you want to add more to it.
Finalise it after you've finished adding to it though.
The best thing would be to add everything at the same time.
It's been a while since I've used Nero, so I cant advise as to the exact process.
Hopefully either someone else can, or you can figure it out with the HELP files and the info I've given you.

As an experiment I installed Windows 2000 Pro on my old hard drive, and I really like it. I'm thinking of installing it on my main drive, but the only problem i have with it is the lack of ClearType. The BUILT in font-smoothing doesn't do me any GOOD. Is there a free equivalent to ClearType for Windows 2k? Thanks!

BTW, welcome to W2K, it's nice to see people upgrading from XP. Well I like cleartype because I have an LCD (it's a laptop)... but I guess I can live WITHOUT it it'll just take some getting used to lol. I'm not planning switching to 2K until next month sometime, so maybe i'll just turn it off in XP for a while and try to get used to it. thanks!

Can anyone recommend a data Recovery Company? Like anyone who's had a hard drive crash, I don't want to trust the recovery of my image files to an inexperienced outfit. I have/had a LaCie d2 Big Disk 500GB with about 400GB of files on it. Evidently, the problem is most likely electronic, as there is a small hole BURNED on the control card. Some of the files are backed up, but not all, and they are all important to me.
It's my understanding that the 2 Maxtor DRIVES inside are RAID O configured, which makes recovering the files more complicated. If it's risky to fix, then I want to use a reliable, established company.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated
If you are pretty sure it is the control board, you can do what the recovery company would probably do anyway...that is to replace the electronics.
For a proprietary drive like the Big Disk, the easiest and probably the most cost effective thing to do is to buy another drive. Assuming that the circuit board dying hasn’t corrupted the data, you should be able to swap the drives out of the new unit and put your older drives in. If all is well, you will see your data. But if still there is any problem recovering your data then I will suggest you to go to data recovery labs. They will recover your data with a snatch of fingers. Few days ago my friend working in MNC came with a terror on his face. From him I came to know about how he has lost his data, with the system crash. He was supposed give very important information in his company. My friends and me tried our best to recover but failed. Then we decided to go to data recovery labs. The first lab, which we came ACROSS, didn’t work out well. Finally we reach SAlvageData Recovery Lab  at   Inc., 76 Progress Drive, Corporate Park, Stamford, CT 06902. Guess what it was just UNEXPECTED; he got all his data he had lost. Nice lab I must say. As you go to the lab you must tell them what exactly has happen i.e. how you have lost your data and what you did to recover it but failed etc. etc.

I run W-XP and had WM 9 INSTALLED - lovely. I then installed 10 and was Ok. I then tried to install 11 and it refused to validate (I am legal by the way)! I now cannot get rid of it to re-install 9. I have tried:
uninstall from control panel
deleting every entry I could find in registry
uninstalled using the uninstall key from registry
deleting every possible mention of it in explorer

All I get is that there is a newer version running on my computer and set-up will now close.

Please can someone tell me how to "PERMANENTLY" get rid of it.

PS: I did post this before but it seem to have disappeared??No guarantee but I suggest you download CCleaner and run it's Windows scan and APPLICATIONS scan, and be sure the run the Issues scan.  When running the latter, CCleaner will ask you if you want to backup your Registry.  Say YES and then proceed with the scan.  Fix all issues it finds.Thanks - will try that

I routinely attach files to outgoing email messages sent from Outlook 2002 (Outlook in Office XP).  Sometime around last spring I found I was not able to attach certain files but was able to attach others of the same type and from the same directory.  

Example:  
I have a folder named "Info for Models".  Amongst files in the folder are "Info1_Invitation.pdf", "Info2_More_Details.pdf", "Info3_Model_Guide.pdf", "Sample_Resume.pdf" and so on.

The trouble began when I attempted to attach my Info1 file and my Sample Resume file to an email message I was preparing to send out.  I got this message:  "Can't create file: Info1_Invitation.pdf.  Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to CHECK your permissions for the folder."

This only OCCURRED for this one file.  I could attach the other files.  I renamed Info1_Invitation.pdf to Info1a_Invitation.pdf and then was able to attach the renamed file successfully.

Then a few days later another file failed to attach.  I found I was unable to attach "Sample_Resume.pdf" to an outgoing message.  I searched the Internet for cures.  I wound up changing the pointer to "Temporary Internet Files" from "C:\Documents and Settings\dmckeen\temp\Temporary Internet Files" to "C:\temp\Temporary Internet Files".  I made the change from "IE Tools > Internet Options > General > Browsing history > Temporary Internet Files and History Settings > Move folder...", not the registry.  

Everything began working fine.  For about six months.  Again I had to rename my Info1... to Info1a... And ...Resume to ...Resume1.  

Any ideas why certain files are being discriminated against by the OS, which is Windows XP Pro, SP2?  I can't find anything that comes close in MSKB.

I most frequently attach the Info1 and the example resume at the same time.  According to file order the Info1 file, which is the one that first won't attach, loads first.  So far those have been the only two files I've had trouble attaching.  When I rename them they attach OK.  Everything else about the file remained the same.

But there is something else fishy going on that seems to be related.  I once was able to insert inline images within the body of HTML formatted email messages.  EMOTICONS, image thumbnails and the like.  At about the time my Info1 file first wouldn't attach ("Can't create file...") I had trouble including inline images in my messages.  If Outlook had not yet saved a draft of the message I was able to insert files into the message body.  If Outlook had already saved a draft of the message I would GET the little red X in a box representing the image.  If I inserted an inline image before Outlook saved the draft, but then Outlook saved the draft before I send the message, the image would be replaced by the little red x in a box representing the image.

After I directed Temporary Internet Files to a new temp folder the inline images began sticking in the message body normally, but after a couple of weeks the trouble began again.

This all seems so convoluted I hope I'm explaining it clearly enough.  I appreciate your interest in this.  I've found search results on the Web that seem to dance around what 'm experiencing, but noting that hits is right on the head.

This may have something to do with the system applying protection to the Temporary Internet Files folder.  I can't find anything in the MSKB that deals with this set of weirdness.

For a while now, ever since I got the 2006 version of Norton Anti virus, the e-mail scanning hasn't worked. Norton tells me every time I start up that there is an error regarding the e-mail scanning, and I was wondering if anyone would know some possible solutions. Its really annoying.So, the error MESSAGE appears when you start your computer, right?  Once you get beyond that point, does Norton scan you incoming mail and, if set for this, your outgoing mail?  Can you run a full HARD drive scan with Norton?  

Have long have you had the 2006 version of Norton Anti virus installed?  Was it working right after you initially installed it?  Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it?  Have you contacted Symantec about this, or searched for info on their website?Can't solve your issue but as a public service i'll post this for future reference as it may come in handy someday....

Hey guys, I have a SigmaTel High Definition Audio soundcard and I believe it may be incompatible with the VOIP for Battlefield 2142. Everytime I start up a game or enter the audio options my computer crashes and reboots itself. I recently encountered the same error with Teamspeak. Can anyone please confirm if this is true and if so, what do I need to do to fix the problem and get this game up and running. Thanks.Please list as much information about the hardware installed on your computer and the operating system as well, no detail is too small.
This will make it easier to troubleshoot the problem.all right, here goes:

My guess is that I need a Soundblaster card in order to overcome this problem but I have no idea why that would make my computer completely restart.  I have been getting a system error window at restart that involves either a .dmp file or a .xml file when it reboots after loading a map in Battlefield 2142.  Unfortunately I don't know what this kind of file is.  Thanks again for any information you can PROVIDE!

thanks, but unfortunately not the problem.  That thread was made by people who can actually PLAY the game and can't get VOIP to work.  My computer reboots as soon as a map loads so I've never even played a level in single player or multiplayer.  It also reboots whenever I go into the audio options.  I have been looking around for some time now and no one seems to be having this problem.  Any other suggestions?Well LETS review exactly whats going on.

Microsoft may have a solution for this but first I need the error codes to search their database.
To get those codes disable the autorestart feature in my computer(right click)/properties/advanced/startup and recovery settings.
Have a pen and paper handy and start the game or enter audio options, the computer will crash to a blue screen this time with an error message, write down the error codes exactly restart the computer and post them here.

Other then that you could try updating the drivers for the sound card by doing the following
 start the computer in Safe mode, and then update the Intel audio codec driver for the SigmaTel audio codec to the latest version. To do this, follow these steps: 1. To restart the computer in Safe mode: a.  Restart the computer.
b.  When you receive the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press F8.
c.  On the Windows Advanced Option menu, use the ARROW keys to select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
d.  If you are using a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select Microsoft Windows XP Professional in the list that is displayed, and then press ENTER.
 
2. Update the audio codec driver. To do so: a.  Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
b.  Expand Device Manager, and then in the right pane, expand Sound, video and game controllers.
c.  Right-click Intel(r) AC'97 Audio Controller - SigmaTel Codec, and then click Update Driver.
d.  Click Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.
e.  Click Don't search. I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.
f.  Click to select the Show compatible hardware check box, click Intel(r) AC'97 Driver Audio Controller, and then click Next.  
g.  Click Finish, and then click OK.
h.  Shut down and then restart the computer.
 

Well I may be OFFICIALLY retarded.  I recently had to wipe my harddrive as something was going screwy on it and my monitor had turn all washed out purple.  Not sure if this was related or not but starting over from scratch usually is the best bet for me.  Upon doing this I found a program called Intel Studio Audio that runs on my desktop.  I have deleted this many moons ago as I didn't think I needed it to run anything important.  Could this missing program have caused all of my trouble?  I don't know the answer yet since I still have to restore all of my computer to get it in working order again.  Any thoughts?  Would this program control microphone related programs and be vital to the game and teamspeak working?
I am not familiar with Intel Studio Audio so I cannot say for sure, sorry.

oi, here is the thing. i maintain contacts for my Motorola Q USING Outlook 2003, i want (and for most it WORKS) this format displayed:
company name
first-name last-name

for most contacts this works, but for some it does:
company name
last-name, first-name

what is up ? i can't see any difference in what i do... it's weird (and ALSO annoying :}

RANDOMLY i will only do LASTNAME, firstname. i digged all over Outlook settings and the one place where you can set it it's set but not picked up by the contacts.

I love using Nero to make slide shows to music and used to be able to preview the slide show as I was going ALONG to see how it looked. But now it wont PLAY back the pictures or music at all and I have to wait until I've burnt the whole thing before I can even see it. How do I fix it? dl65  Umm, yes it may have something to do with the other problems I've been having.  But I think Nero wouldn't load at all until I took my COMPUTER to be repaired, and now Nero loads, but as I said, wont let me play back my slideshows. It's very frustrating.  Did they happen to re-install the same version of Nero ? ?I dont think they re installed nero, it is still on my desk top but now the whole programme has dissapeared from my system. I tried download version 7 but it gets halfway through the download and then stops. I cant seem to download it again and when I try to look for the  original program on my computer the icon is there but the program is gone. It searches for it but comes up with NOTHING.  Very strange.Do you happen to have the CD laying around somewhere ? ?No - it was already on my computer when I bought it.

It sounds like we would be treading on thin ICE...I'm unsure what the Activation Process has to do with the hosts file, but you can run the activation from the RUN box as: oobe/msoobe /a

The hosts file maps device names to IP addresses ahead of your domain name server. Useful for blocking internet sites. Where this FITS in with activating an OS is beyond me, UNLESS of course you're blocking www.microsoft.com

Recently I DOWNLOADED some episodes of a SHOW I like to watch. But the thing is they are in MP4 format and I want to watch them in Windows media player. Is there any codecs that support MP4 files or a program that can CONVERT them?

I did try this one program called 3ivx but with bad RESULTS, it played in constant fast motion even when set to normal (with fast sounds) and bad quality footage and the video too small.

I have some reports that have footers with page numbering.  The page numbers are correct when viewing the document on the screen, but when I print it out, the page numbers are all wrong.  Anybody know what might be wrong?

I am not able to view videos on youtube, nor myspace, nor the music players on myspace.  More importantly, I'm not able to LISTEN to the audio for my online classes via their site.  I believe it's because of a GLITCH with Flash Player.  I downloaded a version off of shareware.com because when I go to download it straight from the source (adobe.com), the automatic download BOX never pops up as it should, even after holding down Control to cancel out the pop-up blocker.  When I click Install on the version I downloaded, it says CHANGES will take effect after a restart.  But even after RESTARTING the computer, I still can not view videos on youtube etc.  Any ideas?Sounds like your internet security software is getting in the way.  What are you using?  Have you tried Firefox?Oh, I figured it out already Rob.  Thanks though.Sometimes he is just that good...

I come across this while trying to PLAY pictures in a slide show or burn pictures to a DVD. I renamed the picture in the order I would like to see them to 1, 2, 3,...200 etc. They will only be PLAYED in a slide show in the correct order with Windows Picture and FAX Viewer.  Other softwares like Irfan view or Nero will show them in a DIFFERENT order, like 1, 10, 100, 2, or some wierd order.  Any insight or solution to this problem from anyone?Alphabetically, 10, comes before 2 - because 1 is before 2 in the ASCII character set.  The latest versions of Windows FUDGE this a little by trying to figure out what you mean when filenames contain numbers.  If you want it to work everywhere, pad your numbers with zeroes like this:

001
002
010
115

etc.

I think i have a problem nobody can help me with.

I run Outlook 2002, with newest updates and all...
If i use the find feature, it'll work. It starts searching.
If i then press the STOP button, it will continue searching.
The only way to stop it, is changing folders. But that'll cause you to loose the selection.

I searched through the MS Knowlegdebase, but COULDNT find anything. I've used google... that didnt profide me with any help.

This situation is on every machine. I used multiple workstations, reinstalled the APPLICATION a couple of times, even installed a NEW image.

Local i cannot get it to stop.
If i use outlook 2002 through a Citrix-session it can be stopped.. so my guess is, that resources are short on the client. BUT these workstations are not old.. there all P4 3.2Ghz with 1GB mem.
This is not a big problem, it just annoys me..  

The PST files aren't that big, about 400MB, as is the mailbox.
Running with Exchange... If anyone thinks he can help me, and needs some more info...

I have exactly 2.94GB worth of music in my My Music folder, and I need back it all up because I'm doing a format/reinstall of Windows XP (it's getting slow and I'm almost out of hard drive space), and I'm going to have to back them up to CD-R... Is there a more convienient way of backing them up besides drag and drop? I.E. something automatic, or at least semi-automatic? Thanks! I have Windows Media Player 11 btw.

-JohnThere is no quick way to back things up to a CD. I'm afraid you will need to drag-and-drop and burn unless you have another hard drive you can use to back up. Sorry.

I would suggest, however, a more permanent solution: Getting a large hard drive to replace the old one. Even if you did reinstall Windows, you will eventually run out of space again. Getting a new, larger hard drive after backing up to CD would give you PLENTY of comfort, and you won't need to do it again for a long time. Plus, you can keep your old DISK drive as well, and have even more hard drive space!

Expensive? Not really. Once you decide to pay for a hard drive, it's not too much more for a really good one. Some examples of this are evident at Newegg:

I'm not saying you'd have to buy a new hard drive, but I do think that you will eventually need one if you're running out of space.Get a gmail invite and establish an account. Email them the your gmail account. When you are ready to retrieve simply download them and save.You could use nero since it has a convenient size watch. Your best bet would be to use a dvd(which is the cheapest) if you have a dvdrwActually I'm buying a bigger hard drive next month but until then I'm getting extremely annoyed (and this installation is only 3 months old).
As for the gmail suggestion, my connection is relatively slow (256K) so that would probably be less convenient than backing up to CD. If I had a faster connection though I would consider it.
And I do have Nero, but the problem I have is figuring out what i've ALREADY backed up. Oh well I guess I'll just have to spend all day backing it up. Thanks!

We currently have a system set up on Microsoft word like this for our purchase orders:

Page 1: Cover Sheet
---Asks A bunch of different types of ITEMS, each little thing affecting another thing.  For example, we want this Item, it will be part #00001, but if we want it to include an overhang or something it will change that part # to 122340  Things like this constantly occur over the page.  

Page 2... on: Parts Sheets
---This area is affected by the stuff on page one.  Currently we have a guy who does about 16 pages worth of this stuff, goes down to the parts sheet of the "Master copy" and then deletes parts he doesn't need, and adds other information such as qty and size and such.  If we had a program where the top page automatically set the bottom pages up then that would be great!


Situation:
---We need it to do something like ask questions or stuff of the information on Page 1 and when we're done our purchase order needs to be able to print out this nice neat sheet of parts required and have a cover sheet like the one we currently have.

Problem:
---Not only is this program impossible to find, but we'd also need a program that will allow for constant changes.  We add NEW parts in at least once a week and we'd need to fix the logic in there.
---Also we need this to gather from our "inventory" sheet that has the part description and we would base everything off of that part number.  The Inventory is currently set to be in Excel.


I really need help with something like this, WHETHER it be I go ahead and program it in MS Access or create a website version or whatever, we need to get something set up and I understand a program this massive may be expensive, but that's okay.. whatever it takes.

--MikeIf you don't want to invest lots of time into a bespoke solution, I believe Microsoft's InfoPath would be right up your street.  It's a pretty amazing bit of kit and is included in the Pro version of Office.

As GX1_Man kindly mentioned, some programming assistance (DB/web) COULD be available if you would like.  But please, if you're doing this yourself, DON'T use Access as your back-end.  It's way too fragile in a multi-user environment.

1. Using WinRAR or a similar tool you can split the file into multiple archives. The only problem is you need all of the archives to put them back together.

Downloaded a long game (navigator) that is usually on 4 cd's.  So now I can look at all TH efiles an dopen them individually but I can't load the game as I dont SEE a obvious SETUP bit!!!   I thought i was being clever but I guess not!! I fI had the cds i could put them in th emachine and the prompt would tell me what to do RIGHT!?

AlisonWe don't help with warez or cracks. Legal games have support through the  manufacturer's web site.

EDIT : So I ran Trojan REMOVER and accidentally removed something I don't think I should have :

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\NTUSER.DAT

My computer restarted and my desktop background was gone, and eveything looked a bit different.  For example on the start menu, the whole left side of the panel is now blank, the minize/maximize/close buttons are about 2 x SMALLER.  It won't let me set a picture for my desktop background, not even by right clicking a pic off the web.  It forgot my default homepage, and WEBPAGES SEEM to take much longer to load, youtube videos not showing up.   I tried a System Restore a few times, and although it brought the computer back to earlier times, before the great mistake, it didn't fix the problem.

If it's part of the registry that's been deleted, isn't there a CD I can insert, a program from the NET I can download, or anything I can do to get it back?
