Solve : Audio devices not functioning? |
Answer»

Hi,
I am unable to set my MIC/headphones as the default devices, when I right click the speaker icon and go to recording devices, that window freezes, when I go to playback devices, the headphones do not have an audio level bar and cannot be set as default. When I try to run audacity it says:

"could not find any audio devices.
You will not be able to play or record audio.

error: internal port audio error"

Previously, my mic and headphones would work and my speakers wouldn't. Then they just stopped one time I started it up and my speakers started. I was able to System Restore to fix it but as soon as the computer was restarted it would revert back. System restore no longer solves the problem. I can plug my headphones into my speakers and they still work fine but I really need my mic. When I try plugging in my webcam it doesn't work either, although it becomes set as default (the recording devices window still freezes/crashes).

I am on Windows 8.1 32bit.

Thanks for any HELP Please indicate if this is a laptop.
Better, give the model number.
Different makers do odd things with the Mic and Headphone jacks.
Did you r PC or laptop come with Windows 8?
If you had it working at some point in time try a restore to a prior pointHi,
SORRY it is a desktop. A Dell Inspiron 530. It was originally on Vista but I upgraded to Windows 8. My sound was working 100% fine for a period with Windows 8. Unfortunately, restoring did solve the problem for a single session but now restoring to a time well before it WORKED no longer helps.

Thanks,
RonanOnboard sound ? ?...or an addon Card ?

Check Device Manager for any Yellow !!'s...I assume it is onboard. It is just what came with the PC, I'm not sure how to tell what it is. No yellows in device manager. Some more information, on Skype I can't make any calls because there is a problem with my recording device. In the microphone section of the call quality information on skype it says "can't access your sound card". This is a problem with all MICS I try however and I can't use the non-speaker headphone port.

Thanks,
RonanHi,
Just ended up reinstalling Windows :3 Was having some more obscure problems with my internet and graphics so I thought it would be easier (and it was). Plus I upgraded to 64bit and now have an additional 0.75GB of RAM at my disposal haha!

Thanks everyone for your help!

| |
