Solve : Can't get certain (many) applications to exec? |
| Answer» <html><body><p>I cannot run <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/many-554478" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about MANY">MANY</a> programs, including team-viewer or Trojan killer or word or excel, etc....When I try, I get the following 2 messages...:::::::::<br/><br/>Under heading "Microsoft Works" message reads (Cannot change the <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/document-432702" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about DOCUMENT">DOCUMENT</a> C:/Program...\trojankiller.exe. The document is read-only or is open by another user or application. To change this file, save it with a different filename.)<br/><br/>I then hit OK and another box pops up under the heading of Microsoft works spreadsheet....<br/>(Works cannot open the file you selected. The file may be corrupted or it may be a file type that the spreadsheet cannot open. Check that the file type appears in the <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/drop-244477" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about DROP">DROP</a> down <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/list-11333" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about LIST">LIST</a> in the file open dialog.)<br/><br/>Sometimes I can get a program to work by right clicking the icon and opening another way. many times I just can't get the program to work....no big deal as I have a new laptop and will be giving my old one away.....but it would be nice if I gave it away working......<br/><br/>I can also get IE or Firefox to work....<br/>Running on 9 year old emachine desktop pc... "xp" <br/>I have tried rebooting, samething....also, tried to restore but can't get the restore program to run, same message as above...Last resort, I may take original disk from when I bought it and see what it may do?<br/><br/>Any Ideas??? <br/>HipDo you have an XP CD?<br/><br/>If so, place it in your CD ROM drive and follow the instructions below:<br/>•Click on <strong>Start > Run</strong> and type <strong>sfc /scannow</strong> then press Enter <em>(note the space between scf and /scannow)</em><br/><strong>*Let this run undisturbed until the window with the blue progress bar goes away</strong><br/>SFC - Which stands for System File Checker, retrieves the correct version of the file from %Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache or the Windows installation source files, and then replaces the incorrect file.Thanks for the response... I loaded the original restore cd and types what you described..... It does the same thing as I described above..... It won't run the scan....<br/><br/>also tried GHO fix programs and same thing, download them but they won't run.....<br/>?? HipCan you boot the computer in Safe Mode?Sounds like the ".exe" file extension has been <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/wrongly-732715" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about WRONGLY">WRONGLY</a> associated to Microsoft Works.<br/><br/>Try uninstalling Work (or office) and then re-installing.<br/><br/>I'd say it's worth a shot.</p></body></html> | |
