Solve : can't play commerical movie in dvd? |
Answer»

Hi,

I have a new HP computer well actually refurbished running Vista. I can play all dvd for programs or copied movie but I put in a commercial movie and it won't read it. Like no disc in there. I am sure it is some button or check mark I haven't done but it is driving me crazy. I sure hope someone has help for me. Thanks for your time, LindaWhat player? Its says LightScribe DVD super multi drive/cd-writerNo, what program do you use to play those videos? WINDOWS Media Player?Duh sorry about that. I just bought nero 8 because I needed it for Vista and I couldn't play with that so I uninstalled it and I uninstalled Norton thinking maybe those programs were messing me up. So I tried with windows media and nothing there. I tried with my dvdfab program and it keeps telling me to insert a disc. If I got o d drive and click on it says to insert disc. This is just crazy. It can't be the drive because everything else works. Is this the only DVD you're having trouble with? Is it all store bought disks you are having trouble with?
Is it just DVD or CD you cant play?
Quote from: lindalisenby on April 17, 2008, 12:34:15 PM

I have a new HP computer well actually refurbished

Are you sure you have all of your drivers up to date? You could try VLC player. I have had good luck with it.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

I have been able to play almost anything with it unless it is copy protected.

I can't play any store bought movie. Movies I have copied I can play. the store bought movies will not register as even being a disc in there. When I checked if the dvd player was working properly it says it is. I didn't do anything about drivers....what do I have to do? thanks Quote
and I uninstalled Norton
I hope you still have some sort of AV program running.I don't know AV but if you mean a security program no I do not at this time since I uninstalled Norton trying to get this thing to run. If you don't have one and you're on the internet, you're playing with fire and you will have more problems than not being able to play a DVD. Quote
You could try VLC player. It is not a player because it doesn't even register that a disc is in the drive. If I go to my computer and click on D drive it does not show anything there. So is it because a movie you buy is copyright protected but that doesn't make sense than how could you watch a movie on your computer. I am really frustrated by this. I appreciate the answers so far.Try one of these:
1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
or...
2.
