Solve : Cannot run Vista SP1? |
Answer»

Downloaded and ran Windows6.0-KB936330-X86-wave0.exe from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/bb738089.aspx, but when the license dialog box COMES up the text goes past the margins and you cannot scroll sideways, and i cannot see any "I Agree box" at the end. Thus NEXT is greyed out. The text ends with " EULAID:VistaSP1_R1.0_Upgrade_RTL_en-US" My screen resolution is 1024 X 768, and increasing it does not help. My PC is a Dell e520 with a 3.08 dual processor (not x64).TRY here.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_Windows_Vista_Service_Pack_1_d5925.htmlThanks. I'll try it, ut it's the same name and 434 MB size as the last one. Majorgeeks is an AUTHORIZED vendor of MS updates/software.It does the same. I wonder if there some way to get past to the next step directly. I guess that's why they call it Beta. It's not beta, it's the final release.
Did you try to use Windows Updates?Yes, but it's the same file. i even tried moving the file to my desktop from the download folder on another drive, and make sure i have all the other updates, but it's still a no go. Other http://www.omgili.com/omgili.search?q=vista+sp1+install+error&p=5 people have problems but only found one that was similar and had no solutions.

(that's not my website, by the way, just the source of the wallpaper)Is this screenshot from Windows Updates try?
When you put your mouse pointer over the edge of that WINDOW, does it change to double arrow, allowing you to drag window size wider?Yes, and no. Some dialog boxes (like Control Panel) allow resizing, but this is one of those that do not, just like actual Appearance settings box. Is this screenshot from Windows Updates try?
What happened to that screen shot? When i got to windows update site under IE7, and choose to install the active x, it comes up with an error: "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page.." I have Active x enabled, temp files emptied, and have gone thru the support steps except deleting UHIST.XML. Them, you are unable to send a Windows Update support request due to the same error.

This type of thing is why i do not use IE much but FF , which MS will not allow updates to run from (ie tab will not do it either). When i use Windows update from the Start menu, it only downloads normal updates (windows defender, etc.).

I normally run XP (faster), which i dual boot with, but thought i would try to see if sp1 helped Vista basic to be a little more than basic. Thanks for your efforts.
Well, i found the problem here http://www.neowin.net/news/main/08/03/20/why-installing-vista-sp1-might-fail-via-windows-update.

"Windows Update will temporarily not offer Windows Vista SP1 to systems that have the following device drivers."

Display drivers:
"For x86-based computers: Igdkmd32.sys – versions between and including driver 7.14.10.1322 and 7.14.10.1403z"

7.14.10.1322 is what i have for the 82G965 chipset.

Clicking on search for updated drivers results in "Windows software has determined...up to date, as does checking Dell support (no new drivers than what i have). Intel support had a new update for my G965 Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for winvista_158.exe (Vista 32 HB), but running it results in an error that this is "this driver is not validated for this computer.." though i have the specs right. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2576&OSFullName=Windows+Vista*+Home+Basic%2C+32-bit+version&lang=eng&strOSs=152&submit=Go%21

My Sigmatel sound card was also disqualified (6.10.5511.0 or earlier) though Dell updated itto 6.10.0.5343. Apparently no more newer updates will be offered: http://blogs.computerworld.com/my_nightmare_trying_to_upgrade_to_vista_sp1i

No big deal for now. I thank God i was able to get an unopened copy of XP retail for about 110.00 when first got this new PC abut a year ago, and overall find it over better, though Vista is a bit more stable and has better disk and power management. Next i must see if XP SP3 (due next week?) faces the same driver hurdles.
Did you have SP1 beta, or RC previously installed? No. It's the driver issue. I am not alone: http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9070578

I will try email support: http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=11732

Many are calling, but not all are chosen!I see.

| |
