Solve : Did a restore and lost everything? |
Answer»

Ok so I have a computer where some Woman did a restore on her computer (thinking she had a virus) and it took her back to when she first bought the computer in time. Now I'm not sure if undoing the restore will bring everything back? Is there a program that will find and bring those files and programs back? You may inadvertently restore Windows XP to a previous configuration that you do not want. To undo the restoration:

1. Log on to Windows as Administrator.
2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
3. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Undo my last restoration, and then click Next. A System Restore message may APPEAR that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
4. On the Confirm Restoration Undo page, click Next. System Restore restores the original Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
5. Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Undo Complete page appears.
6. Click OK. The only way I know is to GO though safe mode.Log onto the Administrator account (which MIGHT be the only account on the computer).I haven't seen the computer yet. I'm not sure if it's xp home or pro or vista. How do you log on as administrator for them? The Administrator Account is the main user account.

Basically go back to System Restore and there is an option to undo it. Right I know that. The only way I know how to log in is to go through safe mode to do it. And that was on xp home. Can you get onto Windows the normal way?

Note: When you start up the computer, when it says 'Welcome', you are logging onto Windows. If you log on without having to click on another account, you are logging into the Administrator account.Yes I can. So then it should be no PROBLEM then. I'll see if I can get it to undo the restore. This method will not work as it's not a System Restore that was done but a Recovery installation.....they are 2 very different things and i wouldn't get her hopes up as her DATA is already long gone.

| |
