Solve : For people who downloaded Windows 8 for $49? |
Answer»

I bought the Windows 8 download version for $49 and used it for 10 months and one day got the blue screen of death. I figured it was HARD drive failure so I bought a new hard drive, and then tried to reinstall windows 8 using the product key produced by a program that my son downloaded to reach into the bad drive and retrieve serials. The old serial didn't work so I called MICROSOFT and gave them that number and they accused me of being a thief. So I bought a new copy of Windows 8. My son checked the serial and sure enough it was fake. So either the serial retrieval program lied or somebody sold me a bad download.Quote

I called Microsoft and gave them that number and <STRONG>they accused me of being a thief.

I have yet to have Microsoft make such claims over the phone. I have gotten my license keys wrong when activating them where I get a letter written down wrong on paper or think that a B is an 8 etc and they never accused me of being a thief.

I saw that DEAL shortly after Windows 8 was released and the sales were slumped that Microsoft was offering it at the low cost to try to get takers for around $40. If not purchased through microsoft it could be a cracked beta that you purchased and the key for the cracked beta of Windows 8 was GIVEN to all who bought into the pirated OS, then I can see a microsoft employee stating that your copy is not genuine and would you like to purchase a genuine copy. However stating that a customer is a thief over the phone is strong words that would usually cost the microsoft employee their job for using such language as for it is not good for business. If you would liek to do so, you can also share information about the pirated copy so that microsoft can attempt to take legal action, however most are hidden from legal action in countries with weak software piracy laws, and out of legal reach to take legal action against. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/cfr/report.aspx

Do you have documentation on where you purchased this to share with microsoft to offer you an activation if it is genuine? If this documentation is from a pirate distributor, you should throw away the media and buy a new copy of Windows 8. Microsoft will not cut you a break for your $49 loss and give you a deal on a genuine copy feeling bad for your situation. Its just business!

This one guy came up to me once with a laptop he bought in Singapore cheap that had Windows XP on it and all of a sudden he started getting notices that his Windows XP was Not Genuine, it had been a pirated/cracked version of Windows XP installed to a no name generic laptop. Microsoft offered people the ability to make it genuine and get rid of the blat by paying for a legal license. I directed him to MS website and he was able to make his XP Genuine by paying for it.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/genuine/faq

Quote from: DaveLembke on October 18, 2013, 03:04:15 PM
I saw that deal shortly after Windows 8 was released and the sales were slumped that Microsoft was offering it at the low cost to try to get takers for around $40.
Quote from: DaveLembke on October 18, 2013, 03:04:15 PM
I saw that deal shortly after Windows 8 was released and the sales were slumped that Microsoft was offering it at the low cost to try to get takers for around $40.

There was no such deal. Windows 8 was $39.99 for an upgrade install at launch. $69.99 for the full retail version. The prices are now in fact higher now.

the "$49.99 copy of windows" from what I can tell has been a scam that has been around since at least Windows XP. They are pirated Copies of the Operating System. The issue now is that the actual OS is actually very close to that price (69.99) so it seems that much more legitimate compared to when a full retail copy was $200+.

BC thanks for correction... that $40 deal was for the upgrade to 8 now that I google searched to confirm.

| |
