Contact your support personnel for assistance."

Trouble is, your not running in safe mode and you don't have any support personnel to contact. And if the installer service is not correctly installed, Here's how to correctly install it!

The Windows Installer Service is a component of XP that's used to install programs, but sometimes the files that make up the Installer service get damaged. Luckily, it's usually FAIRLY easy to fix the problem, but you'll need to edit the REGISTRY. You need to be an administrator to perform these steps:

Click Start | Run.

In the Open box, type cmd to open a command prompt, and click OK.

At the prompt, type msiexec.exe /uregister. Press ENTER.

Make sure the SYSTEM account has full control permissions to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT key in the registry:

Open your favorite registry editor.

In the left pane, navigate to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT top level registry key.

Click the Edit menu and select Permissions.

In the Group User Names list, make sure SYSTEM is listed. If not, click the Add button and type SYSTEM in the box labeled "Enter the object names to select."
Click OK.

Click SYSTEM in the Group or User Names list and check the checkbox labeled Full Control under Allow.

Click Apply and then OK.

Close the registry editor.

Restart the computer.

HI tomshope,

thank u for your help, unfortunately it didn't work for me. i repeated the steps 3XS just to make sure i did it right each time & still no luck. thank u for taking the time out to help me. if u happen to find another solution please let me know.

This should work for Vista, as well:
http://www.jsifaq.com/SF/Tips/Tip.aspx?id=6028What's wrong with taking it back to the dealer?thanks broni, but that didn't work either. i've tried just about everything that i could find through the internet. thank u for your help though.

superdave, i purchased the laptop through costco & the only computer repair service facility that they have is in WA, very far from where i am (VA). i could have them completely replace the laptop but that will be my last resort, if i do not find a solution.Try to go back to the instructions I gave you and just before you start the first step, turn off your FIREWALL and antivirus. When your done turn them back on!
If it still dont work, I would as suggested take the laptop back for a replacement or refund.!!!!!!!!!!!!1i hve the exactly same problem ...........but after lots of effort i found very simple solution for this .................

this all is happed becoz u stop windows installer service ..........

to restart is just go to start > run type msconfig .....then go to services and check on windows installer ......restart ....and u done

| |
