Solve : I am going to try out Windows 2000 pro? |

I Intend to use it on Dell optiplex Gx110 small form desktop.<br/><br/>P-III 667 mhz ,128Mb ram,7.6 GB HD.<br/><br/>Thanks for any imput.<br/><br/>RobertWell Windows ME was released just five months after and XP within a year, so they must have something to hide? Though from personal experience; no I have not used Windows 2000 so unfortunately I can not help.<br/><br/>I've heard, and the Wikipedia article on the OS enforces that it is especially prone to viruses and worms.<br/><br/>Maybe if you had the Service Pack 4 Revision 1 it would help?<br/><br/>If you can get it I'd just go with XP.From when I used it, it was very good, pretty similar to XP in looks (with XP in Classic, that is) but less demanding on the hardware.<br/>I didn't use it all that much though, it was sort of 6 years ago so I can't remember too much about it.<br/>From what I've heard from others it is one of the best MS has created in stability and performance.So, you started that at 10 years old Calum.<br/><br/>I first started on computers when I was 42 years<br/>old.<br/><br/>Anyway thanks for the imput friend...... Before Windows 2000 I had been destroying . . . erm . . . working with . . . Windows 95 from 1996-1999, and Windows 98 from 1999 to 2003/2004.<br/>Windows 2000 came at school in 2001/2002 I guess, not for long though because they changed to XP, as did we at home in 03/04 from Win98.<br/>Sorry for the long explanation, just explaining . . . something or other, COL.I've been using 2000 Pro since it came out in...well...2000 I have a couple of offices I set up using it and a lot of banks I see use it.<br/><br/>Personally, I don't plan to change as it does 99% of what I want it to do. I'm behind a hardware firewall, use AntiVir & the standard AS stuff with no problems. System very, very rarely locks up. <br/><br/>Running SP4 with the rollout / 512M RAM & 80G hdd's (2).<br/><br/>Works for me <br/><br/>Alan <>< In my opinion the most stable OS MS ever released...i cannot remember the last time i saw a BSOD.<br/>And as my primary testbench machine it gets tons of stuff thrown at it from BETA software to trial programs to test utilities...just keeps purring along.<br/>One thing noticable though is for some reason it doesn't always release RAM after heavy tasking as well as XP or Vista. I find that if it's been running around 3 days <a href="https://interviewquestions.tuteehub.com/tag/straight-633156" style="font-weight:bold;" target="_blank" title="Click to know more about STRAIGHT">STRAIGHT</a> it will slow a little. Nothing a quick re-boot doesn't fix though.<br/><br/>It likes a defrag about every 3 weeks or so as well. Other than that i think you'll be pleasantly suprised.yah i actually like win2k it is very stable and has good driver support.
