Solve : Losing memory?

Answer»

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook that is showing a 105gb hard drive. RECENTLY the disk is showing that I have little memory left. I uninstalled programs, and removed pics and music but ended up with even less space. I've run virus scans, registry cleaners, spyware, and disk cleaners and can't get anymore space. Right now its showing Used space: 112,871,673,856 bytes and Free space 127,188,992. I think you mean disk space, not memory.

Yes disk space, thanks.
I just tried the last thing I could think of and defragmented and have even less space on the disk. You must have a lot of stuff on there. A typical Windows installation is less than 10 GB, so you must have over 95 GB of stuff. Movies, games, multimedia, whatever. Delete some.

1. What operating system and service pack level are you using?

2. How much RAM does the laptop have installed?

3. The following freeware disk CLEANER is well thought of (but I would leave the "Hotfix Uninstallers" on the disk):
CCleaner Slim

4. Depending upon the operating system and your NEEDS you may be able to adjust:
o Percentage of the system/boot volume reserved for Restore Points.
o Virtual memory settings
o Disable hibernation and delete the hibernation file.I did uninstall pictures, music, movies, and some programs and it still didn't help. My system is vista home premium 32 bit with 1014 mb ram. I do not show a service pack installed under system info. I thought I had downloaded a service pack from microsoft when it came out. Do I need to do that or does that have nothing to do with the problem?I doubt the Service Pack (or lack thereof) has anything to do with your issue. I don't run Vista, so it would be best if someone else could assist you with this issue. You have some serious housekeeping/backup/burning to do...
You should have about 16G of free space on that drive and you have about 127 MG...

Windows will not operate properly in this enviornment.
Does this laptop have a burner ? ?...if so start burning to CD's DVD's and go from there.
