Solve : New Vista home premium?

Answer»

Hi, I am on a FRIENDS new vista home premium pc. I cannot seem to download anything,. eg, I tried to download windows live messenger and it starts but will not complete, the same with yahoo messenger, yahoo messenger says "Its responding, then it states it is not responding and it keeps doing this and will not download!
Anyone else have this problem when they first got there pc, if so what could be causing this? ThanksCan you download CCleaner Slim from http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds ? If prompted to choose Run or Save, choose Save. What browser are you using?I have Vista Home Premium on a Notebook PC. I recently downloaded and installed Yahoo Messenger. The installation seemed to go somewhat different from installing it on Windows XP. At one point, I thought the installation had simply stopped before completion. In other words, there was basically no indication on screen during installation of the progress/status during installation. But, I went to Start, Programs, and it was there. I started Yahoo Messenger and used it for a PC-to-phone call.quote>>>I thought the installation had simply stopped before completion. In other words, there was basically no indication on screen during installation of the progress/status during installation

This is a little different, what happens is it will be downloading yahoo messenger, and you see the scroll bar, but it states at the top of download screen "installing" then it says "installation not responding and it goes back and forth like that the WHOLE time
but the scroll bar said100% done but it would still not stop osicilating. Iwaited almost 3 hours and finally had to cancel it

This is a brand new pc and dont want to use cleaners on it yet. I think it has something to do with the security on vista but cannot pinpoint it? ThanksIf it was a security SETTING you would have seen a message to that effect...
What kind of internet connection is this by the way ? ?My previous post was incomplete; it did not convey my intent. What I intended was merely to see whether you can download other files, from other sources, than the messenger programs you mentioned. In other words, can you successfully download anything from the Internet on that computer?

And, can you install programs on it, other than the messenger programs?

I did not MEAN to suggest that using CCleaner would solve the problem. On an new system, I agree that running a cleaner is not very likely to help resolve a problem. However, since I have mentioned CCleaner, I will tell you that installing it on a new computer is just fine. I have a Notebook PC with Vista Home Premium that's only about 4 months old. I have CCleaner installed on it and have used CCleaner on it, mainly as a general maintenance tool, just as I do on my Win XP system.I understand what you mean. also, I tried to download IE7(yahoo) and it got near the end and it would not install. I will try other downloads and see.
One thing I did notice on this pc is that there are alot of windows updates that are installing right now could that be interefering with other downloads, I never ran both before and dont know? ThanksLet the updates finish...you are probably getting CRC errors in the other DLoads.Yes, I will let the updates finish, BTW, its dial up and is it slow 2hours and only 55% complete.
I was trying to get him dsl but verizon doesn't have it in his area yet. Cable too expensive too!
Will let you guys know later if I can download anything after updates are finished, ThanksTry Firefox. Get DownThemAll! download manager (add-on): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/201, which will let you resume your download, in case your download get interrupted. Thanks,Yes, I will try firefox (did not know about the plug in though) and I was also going to put opera on his pc so he can switch back and forth. But I cannot download anythng right now it seems til these updates complete. Its probably putting every update ever invented on this new pc LOL. Try to finish your updates, and for the future reference....you can also get Windows updates through Firefox, if you go here: http://windizupdate.com/
With download manager add-on installed, you won't have to worry about any broken connection.Thats good to know, I will definitely be doing that in the future, even on my xp, ThanksI totally abandoned IE (never used, in fact), long time ago, and I open it only, if I need to recreate someone's problem.
