Answer»

Hi,
I have a XP workstation that I am trying to install SP 3. Everytime I run the install it gets to a regisrty key (local machine\software\microsoft\current version\PhotoPropertyHandler) and fails. I get an error saying access is deined.

I have tried to go to the key and change permissions but I get access deined.

I have tried this in safe mode without any luck as well.

Does anyone have a work around for this?

Thanks
Interesting...
Is the XP install legit ? ?
Where is the SP3 DLoad from ? ?
I've heard of this happening so LET me check my archives for INFO....

BTW Check in the MEANTIME and list what .net frameworks are installed...i seem to remember it was related to that. Its a legal copy....installed it myself

full 300 plus meg download from MS

Checking .NET

.NET 1.0 SP3 Developer
.NET 2.0 SP2
.NET 3.5
.NET 1.1 and the security update
.NETFramework winforms
.NETFramework PreXP
.NETFramework ASP.NET
.NETFramework CLR
.NETFramework CA

I also can't install IE 7 or 8 becuse of this....they about 80 % installed and then fail. Use it exactly as described - it's a powerful little utility. I've used it many times without incident, but I'm always careful.Looks good!

I ran it and it took me about 1 hour but at the end it fixed the lockup I was getting with SP3 install.

I am now going for IE update to 8....I hope that goes as well as SP3!

Thanks Allan

Hey...look I even spelled your name right this time!

You're welcome.I can't believe you spelled his name right ! !You know, you joke - but only about 1 out of 3 posters who use my name spell it right. How hard is it to look at someone's name and spell it correctly? Especially when there are only 5 letters! Somtimes it's pretty obvious why they can't figure out how to boot to a cd Quote from: Allan on August 17, 2010, 03:50:44 PM

You know, you joke - but only about 1 out of 3 posters who use my name spell it right. So half my stuff has my "legal" (wrong, as far as I'm concerned) name, and the other half has the correct one.

I wonder if I could absolve myself of any debt in the future by signing my name with the ael ending and then claim ignorance and that they should look for this Michael because, as you can see on my birth certificate, it's clearly not my name.

Ahh yes the potential for evil is staggering....

I wonder if people named Bob have these problems?

"Ok Sir, now your Name please"
"Bob"
"And how do you spell that, sir?"
"Q,R, batman symbol, greek letter Mu, Epsilon, B, O,B"
"Ok, just give me a moment"
"The Q,R, batman symbol, greek letter Mu and Epsilon are silent."
Just wanted to let you know IE 8 installed as well as a lot of old patches that were being held back.

Thanks for the help!

Glad you got it all sorted out. Thanks for the update.
