Solve : Problems Installing .net frameworks. and applications?

Answer»

So,

I just did an upgrade on and XP Pro machine from SP2 to SP3. During the upgrade process I ran into the most annoying issue. Somewhere along the upgrade the USB drivers are UNINSTALLED and then the Windows setup prompts me to install non-WHQL drivers. Since this optiplex gx 520 is USB only, I have no way to interact with the prompt. I then switched to an un-attended install disk I have and booted from the disk. After telling it to "restart the upgrade" everything went smoothly and installed.

Not I'm trying to get .NET 1.1, 2.0 (sp1), 3.5 (sp1) and 4.0 (sp1) installed. 1.1 fails with an error (* see bottom), 2.0 seems to install fine, 3.5 fails with "XPSEPSC RETURNED an unexpected value" and "depcheck revealed that XPSEPSC is not installed" or something and 4.0 seems to work fine.

Once I got the error I tried:

Uninstalling .NET 2.0 before installing
Logging on as local admin before installing
Disabling norton real-time protection before installing
Stopping norton/symantec services (via msconfig) before rebooting and installing
Removing norton and rebooting before installing
Installing XPSEPSC.EXE (downloaded from MS website) rebooting and installing
Switching msconfig back to normal mode and rebooting and reinstalling
Running sfc (scannow and scanonce with reboot) before installing
Installing 1.1 from XP OEM disk before installing (failed)
Installing 4.0 before installing
Installing OFFICE 2010 (in hopes it would install something if needed (failed)
Running the INSTALLER from local drive and from network drive
And I'm just finished with a chkdsk from recovery console (errors found and fixed)

Don't know if this is enought to jostle your memory on a similar incident, but any advice is appreciated.

- kyle_engineer

.NET 1.1 errors:
Vs70uimgr: isetupmanager::GetGlobalCustomProperty() failed to find global prop in CUIMgr::GetGlobalProperty()
XPSUI: isetupmanager (same as above) [says this 4 times throughout the log]
Setup failed on component MICROSOFT .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .net framework 1.1: isetupmanager:: (same as first) [says thos 3 times]

These are the only errors listed for .NET 1.1

.NET 3.5 errors:
XPSEPSC Installer: [2] component XPSEPSC Installer returned an unexpected value.
WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates XPSEPSC Installer is not installed.

Those are the only 2 .NET 3.5 errors (repeated each time the installer has been run.Well I just said forget it and upgraded to win 7...
