Solve : Restore file?

Answer»

I'm trying to free up some space on my friend's Hdd which is only 18 gb to begin with. I FOUND a folder marked "Restore" which is 9.72 gb in size on her C drive but when I go into the folder there are only 5 files amount to a total of 448 kb in size. There are no hidden files. The Dell Computer was purchased in 2000 but this folder was added in 2004. She seems to recall someone working on the computer about that time but she doesn't have a clue what he did. My question is: is it safe to delete this folder? If I could do that that would give her almost half of her HDD back. That is probably the Dell Restore PARTITION and not showing the hidden files...
I'd suggest if it's a desktop that she get a LARGER HDD.
You can also travel to the Dell Forums for info on creating a bootable CD/DVD from that restore partition if you are really set on deleting it...I'm quite sure she has the original ME disks. Why would this folder be created 4 yrs. after she purchased the computer? If I gave you the names of the 5 shown files, could you determine whether or not the folder could be DELETED?Sure...
But the original ME CD's will not contain her Dell drivers for that machine...
Did she consider getting say a 40 or 80G drive to add to the SYSTEM ? ?
If she does it can be "cloned" as is and she will not lose anything...all data and programs would be intact and she'd have tons of new space...she could then also format the 10G and use it for additional storage.
Post back when she decides which route to take. She's planning to buy a new computer and give this one to her husband. I'm just trying to buy a little bit of wiggle room until she upgrades.
