Solve : Singularity of Taskbar Icons?? |
Answer»

Running 7 64.

When I launch most programs from my Taskbar, it 'consolidates' the icons - that is, it highlights the Taskbar icon of the running programs, and stacks multiple WINDOWS.

Example:

I just installed IE10. When IT launches, it does NOT highlight the icon, but rather puts another copy of the icon on the far right of the Taskbar - much like programs do that are NOT part of the Taskbar:

Is there a setting somewhere to 'unify' my icons?

Thanks in advance for help.

In the scheme of things, this isn't super important, but it will nag at me.

Or, to PUT it in terms of the Internet (particularly mobile OS boards), 'This shows that MSFT doesn't care at all about the USER by clogging up my taskbar. IE10 - ney, scratch that - WINDOWS - no, wait - COMPUTING is now useless to me and life has lost meaning. I am now, and will remain until this is resolved, a putrid, flaccid mess.'
You can drag the pinned icons around. PERSONALLY I adjusted mine and re-created the Quick-Launch toolbar, so that they are all in one area. Not a fan of taskbar pinning, personally.

Though it's ODD that it wouldn't use the same icon, since that's how I've understood it. I wonder why that is. Perhaps it's launching another version, such as the 64-bit version being pinned but launching the 32-bit version or vice versa? I deleted the icon, launched IE from Explorer (ie, going to the subdirectory and double-clicking), then selected THAT icon and chose it for pinning... And now it works. So maybe you were right, maybe not... Either way, all is good now. File this one under 'D'uh!'.

Big fan of Taskbar pinning, myself. Prefer a clean desktop and a nice row of Taskpins!

Thanks for your help,

rjbI've had this with IE and Outlook a few times - I just unpinned the inactive icon, moved the icon of the open program over, and pinned that.
I have no idea what exactly causes it, but it's not a common problem for me, I see it on maybe 1 in 10 machines I set up here and for the sake of two right-clicks, it's not a major problem.
