Solve : 1962 Boot Sequence Error?

Answer»

I am trying to reinstall/install windows 98SE on a couple of IBM 300GL, (80 MB RAM) 6282 computers and having the same message come up.  I've tried 3 different hard DRIVES and am able to format the disk.  Windows will begin LOADING, but before I need to put in the Windows Code, I get the message: 1962 Boot Sequence Error with the picture of the floppy disk and floppy drive showing up on the screen...time and again.  Error 1962 is Drive does not contain a valid boot sector

Checl boot sequence in BIOS (F1 at start). Make sure floppy is before hard drive. Boot with 98 floppy and format the drive. THen you are ready to load O/S from the CDIt may well be that the Win98 CD is corrupted or if it's a copy, infected. If it's not a copy, use Xcopy32 to copy the contents of the Win98 folder from the CD to a folder on the hard drive. If the filecopy process COMPLETES without error, run setup from the hard drive folder. If an error occurs during the filecopy process, then the CD is suspect.

If the CD is a copy, follow the above process but ensure that the CD is virus/malware FREE by checking it on another machine. Thanks for the advice.
Sometimes the obvious route seems to be the wrong one.  I thought that was just a generic message.  In checking the boot sequence, the D drive had been disabled as had the hard drive in the boot sequence.  I wonder how that happened??? No matter.  Finally, the computers have their operating system loaded.
Thank you very MUCH....once again!!
