Solve : 2 Issues that I just can't figure out.?

Answer» System Info:
Windows XP SP2
WinRAR v3.51 Compression Utility
Intel Pentium M 1.7 Ghtz Processor
1 GB of RAM.
IE 6.0 SP 2

Issue #1:
When I click on a link on a web page to download a ZIP file it does not prompt me where I want to save the file to.  Instead it just downloads the file to the windows TEMP directory.  This is a MINOR ANNOYANCE that I would like to resolve.  If anyone knows what I NEED to adjust in Windows or WinRAR to make it so that it prompts where to save ZIPS, please let me know.  BTW-- when I download an EXE or other file type from a web page it always prompts me where I would like to save it to.

Issue #2:
I have a program in my Add/Remove prgrams list that I CANNOT get rid of.  I have GOOGLED to find out how to remove programs from the Add/Remove Prgrams list.  One suggestion was to use the Rgistry.  When I went to the location in the registry where they reccomended I found that instead of finding the name of the program I foudn the GUID.  There were also suggestions that I use Tweak UI to remove the program.  I cannot seem to find such a function in Tweak UI for Windows XP
So...How can I find the GUID for the program I want to delete or how do I use TweakUI (what am I missing) to get rid of this program?

Any help will be greatly appreciated and...

Thank you in advance. For the first problem, open Regedit and navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
Change the "Download Directory" Value Data to the location of your choice.

For your second program, delete any remnants of the program on your hard drive via Explorer and then use CCleaner to clean up.CCleaner worked GREAT getting rid of that stubborn program from my Add/Remove programs list.

The other issue is still there.  I have gone into the registry where you suggested and the path is pointed to my desktop (which is where I want the downloads to go)  ZIP files still automatically download and open in the temp directory.

Any more ideas??What Zip program is installed? A few exhibit this behaviour as default.Try pointing it to a different directory other than the desktop. See if that works.

If that doesn't work maybe it's some sort of browser hijacker. Have you TRIED scanning for adware/viruses?I use WinRAR v3.51
I have tried changing the location of the downloaded files in the directory and still no luck.
I have scanned for Spy and Ad Ware.  None out of the ordinary.
I have uninstalled WinRAR and then tried to download a zip. It worked like I want it to.  (Prompting me where to save.)
I then reinstalled WinRAR.  It started acting up again.  I dis-associated the ZIP format from WinRAR and tried to download again.  It prompted me for where to save it.  It appears to be an issue in WinRAR.
In WinRAR I have tried changing the default download directory and still no GOOD.  The ZIP files ALWAYS download to and open from the temp directory.

Hmmmmm.....Maybe you should try to seek for technical support from WinRAR.  I've attached a copy of my settings file for WinRaR. Just extract it to the WinRaR program folder and run WinRaR. If WinRaR doesn't give a notice about new settings being used, import it.
