Answer» Ok here it is. I have a friend who's neice CHANGED the password on her laptop and can't REMEMBER it, now she can't log in. Is there anyway to fix this without re-installing? They don't have the Windows 2000 professional CD.
The laptop is an IBM thinkpad 600E.
Any help would be nice. ThanksAre you referring to the laptop BIOS password or the Windows password?
If the FORMER you are SOL. If the latter you are not quite as SOL, but you will need a CD. Do you have a valid COA on the machine? Why no CD?
It was the windows password. After more and more searching I found a program that resets the passwords of any account. So I reset it to nothing and sent the laptop on it's way.
They didn't have the windows CD because she bought it second hand.
Thanks though.Sure no problem. You can find all the information here. It's a good program. You can use it on a floppy or a CD, then you BOOT to it and follow the STEPS. Usually you should be able to follow the defaults. Just make sure it's the right account.
It says only SP3 for Win 2000 but it worked on SP4 for me.
