Solve : 8 years old windows XP computer. Should I repair, or just buy a new computer??

Answer»

My computer is a trooper for lasting this long, anyway,

So I was browsing peacefully last night when suddenly Avg antivirus poped up and said that I have multiple trojans. I tryed to delete them all but for some reason, Avg wouldn't delete them, So I restarted the computer, hoping the problem would go away, but when I came back, the BSOD popped up and the STOP:c000021a fatal error showed up. Ever since, I could not log into my computer as I still get the blue screen of death everytime I try.
Not even safe mode, debugging mode or last good configuration works And I really don't feel like buying a new hard drive. I use Windows XP 2003 home edition. I don't have the installation disk, so I can't reinstall XP. Should I attempt to repair it, or just get a new computer? I don't really have any valuable FILES on there.IMHO.
Buy a refurbished model of the same series or class you had. But not as old. It will have Windows XP with COA.
Later, when you have NOTHING to do, try to fix up the old laptop. As a hobby.Thanks, I will indeed fix up my old computer in my spare time. I am sorta leaning towards getting a macbook though, because my experience with windows lately hasn't been so good.Quote from: Fuzzypickles on January 01, 2011, 02:58:42 PM

I understand how you feel. Wish I was still a millionaire and could afford a MacBook and a new car. Macbookl first, then the car.
Apple - MacBook - The $999 notebookI have the same problem. Don't know which way to go : new or REPAIRED one? My current financial situation is not so good so I thinking of repairing it, even though the thought of a new computer seems so appealing! Welcome to CH.
Actually, this is somebody's thread. You should start your own.
Why not find some refurbished PCs out there in your region? And come back here and start a new thread.

If you like Windows XP, Microsoft has authorized baby third parties to refurbish off-lease desktop PCs. These little companies get a truck load of old Dell or Compaq desktops, clean them up and reload them with a current copy of Windows XP SP3. And stick a label on it the says it is legal.

I have bought one, and I THIN k it was a good deal. You just add your own keyboard, mouse and monitor.

(And IBM is about $200)
* Computer features 1024MB of RAM
* IBM 8171 has a 40GB hard drive
* IBM Desktop comes with Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3 Recovery CD
The FACT that you get a legal XP makes it worth $200.

(This thread should be closed soon.)
