Answer» Hi.
More of a request for information really than help - recentle INSTALLED SP2 for XP. Had trouble doing so until I read on the microsoft website that you should disable anti-virus software before downloading the update. Disabled Avast and it worked a treat.
My question is, why do you have to disable the anti virus software? As a layman, I would have thought that AV software would be at its most useful when downloading STUFF onto your computer - wouldn't want to DOWNLOAD a virus, right? Can't find a satisfactory answer anywhere about this.
As I say........just curious!
Cheers guys.
FeenixSystem UPDATES (especially service packs) deal with crucial SYSTEM files in order to update them. Viruses and so forth deal with crucial system files to infect them. Anti-virus software can't tell the difference, and so would stop both- thus the failure to update properly with AV installed.
Hope that makes sense.Yep, got it mate - cheers.
