Solve : Activated Windows is Asking for Activation Again and Original Key Doesnt Work? |
|
Answer» Have an HP computer G60. It came preloaded with windows 7. I dont like windows 7 or windows vista, so I DECIDED to buy a retail windows XP disk, and install that on the machine. This was about a couple weeks ago. Yesterday, I noticed the computer asking me to activate windows. I had activated it when I first LOADED it onto the machine. There have been no hardware changes made to the machine. Why is it asking me for activation again? Whats even more funny is that the key that I put in the first time doesnt activate windows anymore. Whats going on? How do I stop the thing from asking me for the activation key and giving the countdown of days? Quote There have been no hardware changes made to the machine. That will force activation. How activation works varies with which version of Windows XP you have. With the retail versio0n you have to deal directly with Microsoft. If it was an HP version of Windows XP you could have them help you. Did you keep a backup of the Windows 7? Does HP offer a 'downgrade' to XP for that PC? Where do you LIVE? In the USA you can call a 800 number and get assistance from Microsoft. (888) 571-2048 geek: are you saying that hardware changes will cause a need to reactivate? If so, there have been no hardware changes, I just loaded windows xp onto a computer that had win 7 preloaded. And now its asking me for activation two weeks later. It didnt complain about activation when I first put in the key, and from then to now, the machine has haad no changes. So why is it all of a sudden asking for activation again, and further more why doesnt the key work anymore?I would do have Geek said and call Microsoft. The key is no good because it was used to many times. The fix is to call Micarosoft. |
