Solve : Admin account spying??

Answer»

I recently purchased my NEW computer for college, and my dad, an engineer and very computer literate man, had it sent to him so he could set everything up for me. When he sent it to me (he lives across the country) there is my administrative account, an administrative account for him, and the regular (non-administrative account).
My question is this: why do I need two administrative accounts? I don't even have the password to "his" so there is no way I could even use it.
Also, is there a way for admin accounts to "spy" on non-admin accounts? Could his account be sending my INTERNET and program history to his email?

This is just one thing I have no clue on, and I may just be paranoid, but any insight and help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.I sense some paranoia here.  My hunch is your dad just set up the two admin accounts because he's accustomed to creating separate accounts for separate users.  And, since you could delete his admin account by going to Control Panel, User Accounts from your admin account, it's not very likely he created and left his admin account on the computer because of some spying scheme.

A direct approach here would be to simply call him and just say you were wondering whether both admin accounts need to be kept on the computer, and see what he says.

Did he install any spyware detection and removal programs on the computer?  Does it have a firewall, other than WINDOWS Firewall, installed?  If not, you should download, install, and use 2 or more spyware removal tools, such as Ad-aware, and Spybot Search & Destroy.  You can get these and many other programs from http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html.  If you have no firewall other than Windows Firewall, I suggest you download ZoneAlarm.  Windows Firewall only detects incoming traffic.  ZoneAlarm and other third party firewall programs detect both incoming and outgoing signals from your computer.  Do not run two firewalls at the same time.  If Windows Firewall is currently enabled, dissable it after installing another firewall.

Also, when you get to college, you'll probably FIND the college has some information for students from their IT department.  Check it out.

Or you could get VERY paranoid and surmise he installed some keyloggers on there so he could monitor ALL of your computer activity from across the country.

Again, good communication and honesty go a long way in resolviong this probably unimportant issue.  i it was me i i had decided i wanted to Do things to your computer , i would have installed the network monitor driver , combined with the right Microsoft Admin Tools , ^.^

Id Have Your CD Dirve Opening and closeing all Day Muhahaha

*Is Easaly amused*Ok, as my post was merely meant as a joke, and I can see how you might get it confused as advice

Maybe I should tell you What the Network Monitor Driver does

Basically it allows a MS administrator on a network to view all your Packet Data that is sent of RECEIVED on your network, it also allows administrative commands to be sent to the computer, and basically gives you full remote control.

It is in fact the Protocol Microsoft Networks can be built on with the Intent of spying on any thing a user might be doing, that is how it is related to this topic, now if you would like further explanation on the matter it can direct you to msdn.microsoft.com or www.google.com

If you are to continue to slander me , id suggest you have a look inside my Brain to see how much I know and don’t know before you assume that I am in fact the ignoramus you are making me out to be
You again leave in basking in your magnificent glow, can you wait a while I need to get some sunglasses before I find my self again in your presence, for fear of burnt retinas.

As for the contents of my Brain I never thought that you might not be able for my inferior level of knowledge as I was sure your intellect was on par with the NSA’s supper computers and would have no problem in deciphering the data.
