Solve : Alarm during power up?

Answer»

OK here goes - Windows xp, 256k ram company networked pc; had video issues. After inspection the video is integrated, trying to install NEW video card but only get a BEEP on start up. It doesn't even sound as if the hard drive is SPINNING and there is nothing coming up on the monitor, its not booting at all. I have physically checked all cables and nothing has been removed or installed other than the new video card.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. What graphics card are you installing?
What is the make and MODEL of the motherboard in the machine?Does your powersupply have enough power? Some video cards need alot of power to operate correctly. Try a bigger powersupply and see if that helps.Graphics card is a ATI Rage 8mb PCI
Motherboard is a ASUS 4ps800-MX

This should be a std video card. There is no power connections for it and once I disable the integration there should be no conflict, but I'm not getting that far. I can HEAR the disk try to read just before the alarm, but nothing happens after that. Not sure if it is actually the hard drive or the motherboard at this point. How about the graphics card? Is it known to be working? Can you test it in another machine?Graphics card is new out of the box and is currently not installed (I just removed it). I am trying to troubleshoot using the original equipment and set up to see if I can get any response. No luck so far.Alarm was due to faulty memory reading at start up. Replaced the card, reinstalled the video card. All working correctly - thanks to anyone who helped!Good to hear you got it working again and thanks for keeping us updated.
