And now the computer is telling me i have low disk space i have a local hard disk dirve that's 188gigs and a secondary hard dirve with 12gigs.i must of installed it on the secondary hard drive. Is there a way i can keep the windows xp media edition and get everything back. If not how can i remove the windows xp media edition and go back to the window home edition. thanks if anybody can help!!
You installed Media Edition over Home......you installed another OS over another OS......
Unless you backed everything up, I think you've lost everything. I'm not 100% sure so wait for someone else to reply If you installed the other OS on a separate partition, its possible your other installation was not effected.

When you popped in the disc, did you tell it you were upgrading your old version of windows or installing a fresh copy?

One way to tell if you have 2 Operating Systems going on is Right click on "My Computer", go to the "Advanced" Tab, then near the bottom click on "Settings" for the section "Startup and Recovery".

Once in there, up at the top there should be a little drop down window that has your "Default Operating System" listed. Click on it and see if it shows more than one Operating System. If it only shows one, then your prob screwed when it comes to your old programs. If it shows your old installation, you should be able to set it as the default and then get back into it.ok i did everything you said CARBON and what i come to realizeis that i installed the windows media edition on my(H:)dirve FAT32 with a total of 6.50GB and 12.0KB of free space i can get into the (C:)drive NTFS how can i like when i boot my computer it load the (C:) drive and not the (H:)diveopps i ment to say i did everything rainman2974 saidQuote from: junenex on MAY 01, 2007, 07:25:40 AM

Right, you scared me....

So you want to boot with drive C instead of H...right?You probably overwrote your XP RESTORE ability, so that is long gone. yes i what to boot the (C:)drive instead of the (H:)drive.also when i click START and go into My Computer i can go into the (C:) Drive and get most of my software, music, pic and drag an drop it on the (H:) desk top but i can't get the data just the shortcut icon because theres low disk dive space on the (H:)drive This HDD needs to be hooked up to another machine as a slave and have the data saved...

It then needs to have all partitions FDisked and formatted to how you want them...

Then it needs a clean install of whichever OS you want to run.
