Solve : Am I running Windows XP or NT?!?

My operating system clearly has the look of XP (and clearly not NT). And when I view system information it says I am running XP. But when I ENTER SET into my DOS command PROMPT to view the current environment variables it reads OS=Windows_NT. What's up with that? Should I change or update SOMETHING?

Windows 95/98/Me on the other hand is known as the Windows 9x family.
