Answer» I have gotten extremely annoyed of this... I have tried just about EVERYTHING the net has to provide... and yet no hope... I have spent hours on trying to fix this computer...
The problem? It freezes up, either while starting up, in windows, or what ever. It doesn't matter it happens everywhere...
The offender? agp440.sys... First I noticed it... I repaired windows with a "chkdsk /r /P" and... it WORKED... for about 5 minutes... so I tried it yet again.. and again... yet again no prevail... now I getting very frustrated... I go on-line and follow Microsoft's instructions to DISABLE it... still does not work.
I have renamed the file... I have deleted it. heck I've even formatted 3 different times now... still nothing... I go on-line again... now I find out it's an ATI error... so I switch my 256MB ATI card for a 32MB nVidia card... Well everything still seems to be running... but only after another 5 minutes it crashes again... why? agp440.sys
now I learn that it is something with the motherboard. and if I update the bios thing everything will be fine... well I flashed it, and it's like it didn't even help it one least bit because it still crashes...
I'm pulling hair out on this... I really need help... anyone have a fix for this? cause... everything I've tried has failed... PLEASE help... ThanksMaybe time to Go here>>
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307654Is there a way to do this without getting into windows... Because I can't really do that... and it's getting worse...
Is it possible to do it from the recovory console? You may check this thread: http://www.computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/21602.html Different solutions, worked for different people, so you'll have to play around. Let us know, what you tried.Don't know what the problem is. All I can do is provide a link of others discussing the problem and how some of them resolved it.
