Solve : "and" turns into ampersand?

Hi - bit of a weird one and I can't find any reference on the web or in these forums...

In my Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel) whenever I TYPE "and" it turns into an ampersand "&".
Whenever I type a full stop (or period) "." it turns into a dollar sign "$".

It happens as soon as I hit enter or space.

It just started doing it last week - never seen it before ... and it's DRIVING me nutso - anyone got any idea what's going on?

I'm running Windows XP Pro version (5.1, Service Pack 3) with Office 2007.

You have probably enabled Autocorrect.

Yes, you should.
You should create a separate user account for your daughter so she can play around and learn without affecting your settings.
