Have you run a hijackthis scan ?

If not, do as DL65 suggested, post the log here.If you are using Windwos NT/2000/XP then use that old PERFMON tool (free on your PC!).

SET up some COUNTERS for HD, CPU, NIC and memmory.
Monitor what device is running away.

Second, download from http://www.sysinternals.com the file procexp.exe. It gives you a full overview of all services and process running including missing DLL's ....

Third, do a static discharge of your PC.
REmoving the powercable, then SWITCH on the PC. (duh, nothing happens!) not quite true. There is alwyas a residue power, that will be discharged when the system TRIES to start with that.
Re-connect powercord...
What does your Task Manager say for CPU Usage & Memory Usage?
How about a Hijackthis log?
