Solve : app cant be executed. the file *****.exe is infected.?

Answer»

Hello.  Yesterday I turned on my laptop as usual and started getting several pop-ups telling me "Application cannot be executed. The file *****.exe (there are severl) is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?". I have no idea what to do.  I saw some other posts and responses from SD but he advises its best to START my own post as everyones situation could be different.  Please help me SD or someone! I am running Windows VISTA on an HP pav w/2gbs of memory.  I have had this cpu for a few yrs and never had an issue until out of nowhere 2 days ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

jbWhat protection apps do you currently have installed ?Thanks you for replying first off.  I have Norton Internet Security but do not do much with it and whatever the cpu ORIGINALLY came with.  I run used to run adaware every so often but havent done that in a while.  I ran a program my brother recommended yesterday from http://www.superantispyware.com/onlinescan.html but it did not resolve the issue. Was that a norton popup, or something else. If it wasn't from norton, it could be that your computer is infected, but not those files specifically. No it is not a norton popup.  its a security warning box that says what is in the subject line for the post and asks if i want to activate my antivius software now.  If I saw YES it disappears and if i say no i continue to get more popups.  My Norton program expired and just asks to renew my subscription which i may end up doing, but wanted to see if there was another solution first. thnx Quote from: jonb32 on January 16, 2010, 11:26:46 AM

Can you post a picture of the whole popup? This is what we refer to as Scumware...
