Solve : ASPI8U2.SYS?

Answer»

When I try to start up my computer it tells me that I am MISSING a system registry file. I believe its ASPI8U2.SYS because a prompt reads ASPI8U2.SYS is not installed or missing(something like that). Ive tried reinstalling the OS but that doesnt work either. Help!  Post here please, you config.sys file. (C:\config.sys)I cant even get the computer to get to my desktop, it stops and says windows protection error restart your computer. If there is another way to see my config file tell me how..thanks :-/You tried to reinstall the OS. You managed it or it stoped before with error? The operating system kit was on an cd or on HARD disk? What windows did you tried to install?when i tried to reinstall the OS (Win 98) with the disk that came with the computer I get a message that says I have a compression program on the computer and setup must close. I thought all computers had compression programs on them, I've never compressed my files though. I appreciate the help. Thanks
It is possible your hard drive is "compressed" ( a setting in Windows 98 used to create the illussion of more space on hdd -- it compresses the files on that partition). I don't know how to help you further... without loosing your data from the harddisk. Sorry... Your windows obviously did not install correct the last time you tried.
im not worried about LOSING the files...if there are any other ideas ID appreciate it, thanksDo you have a boot floppy disk for Windows 98? And a cd with windows98 kit on it? Then, with boot floppy disk format c: and then reinstall windows 98 (be carefull, be sure that floppy disk gives you cd support in DOS to ACCESS the CD).
