Solve : audio input problem?

Answer»

my microphone could not be detected so ,i WENT to the sound properties and saw that the microphone volume was not selected ,i did this and the mic was instantly recognised by the pc ,how ever after closing the sound properties ,i saw that the microphone is deselected again ,i selected it back again and the mic starts WORKING ,but after closing the sound properties it was deselected again ,so now i cant use my microphone,
this same proiblem also happens when i selected the audio input option to enable the pc to detect my microphone, but once i close the sound properties ,the audio input would be changed to output and the microphone volume would be deselected again ,
this have made it that am not able to use my microphone anyone ,as a RESULT skype, yahoo messenger and the rest could not detect my microphone,
when i go into yahoo chat to use voice chat i get this message as a result of this problem " the computer audio mixer could not be initialized"
my audio output is quite ok,i play song and video perfectly .
i have windows xp with service pack 2,i also have internet expl 7,i have pentium 4 processor ,supporting hyper threading technology,i have intel desktop  board  D101GGC and my pc is less than 2 WEEKS old ,
i have also installed the audio drivers that came with my board through the cd that came along with the board, yet the problem is still there ,if anyone would help me i would realy apprechiate that ,thanks .
no one with any idea ? :-/ :-/OK, an idea: get an add-on sound card to replace your onboard sound.  If you are using Windows XP and logged on as a limited user, you will likely not be able to make such changes.  TRY logging on as an administrator, making the changes, and then logging back on with your limited account.

Also, if you are using the PC at work, your IT department might have configured your user account so that any changes you make will not be permanent.  If my suggestions don't work, it is a hardware problem.  Try SB's advice, or try reinstalling the drivers for the sound card. Quote

someone suggested this ,but then doesn't it imply that my on board sound is faulty  ?i don't like to believe this cos i just bought a new pc with everything new ,i think the sound card on my desktop board should be the best one for me instead of additional one ,or do u think there are other separate sound card that would equally be as genuine as the one that comes with my board ?
what i wanted to do was to ask that the board be changed as its on warranty ,also am always using my administrator account ,in fact i didn't even create other guest account with my pc,i have also reinstalled audio drivers from the original cd that came with my Intel board and yet it didn't solve the problem ,anymore advice would be appreciated ,thanks .

am not that concerned about the price of sound card,my concerns are these ; would a new sound card solve this problem ? would a new sound card be more superior than the one that comes with my intel desktop board or will the one that comes with the intel desktop board of better quality ? if the later is the case then i must get them to change the desktop board ,again thanks for trying to help . Who made that up?Even a card in the $10 - $25 price range is likely to give you as good, if not better, sound than your onboard sound.  Visit http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/SubCategory.asp?SubCategory=57 for a wide selection. Quote

i was only thinking that Intel  well known brand would have better sound card, but as suggested i would get another sound card and see if it solves my problem ,if it doesn't then am sorry for my dealer cos he has to change the desktop board ,thanks everyone for trying to help .Did you try checking the status of the sound card in device manager and reinstalling the drivers?
