How do you stop certain software from automatically starting up when you re-boot your PC?

I also finished my daughters PC and conneced the wireless hub/router and everythigns working fine. I put the same ad-aware,spybot,defender, avg and ewido setup I have on my pc on hers. There is one thing I can't figure out. In here startup area (lower right hand of screen) a thing called PC Booster always comes up when re-booted. I looked in add/remove progams and no such entry exists. All 5 virsus/trogan/ad etc etc software comes up finding nothing.

One last thing on her PC it is constantly saying virtual memory running low pc will adjust now.

She is running XP on a Gateway PC.

Windows has it's inbuilt startup configuration in MSConfig but it's really inadequate. [highlight]Hijackthis[/highlight] is a very useful tool for controlling startup and other items.Backdrafted,

I did look for PC Booster in add/remove programs I also did a search for it, to no avail. Iwill download hijackthis and if it shows up remove it from there. I will also try the ms config option also.

So SORRY for the misfire.  HAVE ABSOLUTELYT NO IDEA WHERE THE *censored* THAT CAME FROM. But - It did give me a chuckle.

I tried it on my machine using msconfig, getting rid of things that really don't need to be there, and it came back asking me to Put everyting back in Startup? lol

You know I just can't win. There was so much *censored* in there I couldn't possibly put everything back in startup.

Yes, I did try to download SpySweeper thinking it was free got all the way to the end and it told me it would ony remove the infected files if I paid. I quickly quit the program and uninstalled it.

Yes, I did have a problem downloading SP2 and was instructed by HP Tech Support to redownload Office and that too had a few failed attempts!

Norton , I did uninstall everything using the add/remove programs feature. Not sure why thats still in there.

Ad Aware and Spybot are both free and work well. Google for them.

You cannot download office. Do you mean reload from the CD? You should uninstall through add and remove in control panel.

The Norton virus is difficult to remove. See the removal instructions on the Symantec web site.
