Answer» I have an ACER laptop that I bought from a pawn shop (no reboot cd, no warranty, nothing like that). OS is windows XP. Windows crashed and I'm trying to reload windows but there is a password on the BIOS settings and I can't reload winows till I can get by that password. Does anyone have any ideas? When did you get it?
What happens if you don't put in a password and just press Enter? It won't let me enter BIOS settings at all.Whats happening is every time I try to turn on the computer it will START just fine and as soon as it gets to the SCREEN with the windows logo it shuts off and begins to reboot. As long as I leave it turned on it continues this process. I was told that windows crashed and thats why its doing that. I took it to a friend that has a disk but he can't get into the BIOS settings to reload windows. Why do you need to get into the BIOS settings?
Just pop the DISC in and boot from it.
If the CD Drive is not set to boot first, that's where this BIOS password would be a problem...Ya thats the problem it doesn't boot first so the order needs to be changed.Well there is nothing that can be DONE with the BIOS password.
How old is the laptop?honestly I'm not sure how old it isbut I don't think its that old. I GUESS I'm just gonna have to get a new hard drive.Getting a new hard drive won't matter. The BIOS password is in the BIOS itself, not the hard drive.
Perhaps if you bring it to the shop or a service center, they can help you with that password issue. You will need proof of ownership though.
