Answer» If I am posting in the wrong forum feel free to move me. I have a EXTERNAL hard drive that we use to back up files in my home office. The lady who works for me then takes it home just in case, you know tornado, fire, theft, etc. I decided to encrypt the files in case she lost the hard drive. Opps.
I started the windows 7 oem bitlocker. First off I dont think I put in the proper password. However I did save the key on a usb drive. The encryption was going to take hours, so I turned off the screen saver and went to bed. 2nd opps.
When I came back the next morning the program was not RUNNING. I have tried and tried to get it to decrypt but nope not happening. Is there any hope? Or did I just LOSE my data? The data is not lost...it's still there... However the interupption in th e process has wonked things'
See Here...Thanks Patio your are always such a help. Ok before I start I noticed this. 2. Type bcdedit /debug on to enable kernel debugging for the operating system drive. The drive I need to decrypt is a removable drive. Does the command bcdedit need to be different to reflect using the E: drive?Well I must be doing something wrong. After ENTERING the recovery key I get, bit locker drive encryption (E:) not responding.Just a update. I tried everything and could not get the drive to work. Bitlocker will lock the computer up and I had to go to taskmanager to stop the program. I give up microsoft wins. I took the drive apart and smashed it to bits so no one can get my info. I do not recommend bitlocker as if you have any kind of problem you will lose your data. I have never recommended it...
