Answer» I recently removed some malware from my computer and now I'm unable to access my welcome screen on startup. All I am presented with is a black screen with a mouse pointer. Some preliminary research TELLS me that this could be caused from file CORRUPTION resulting from the malware.
From what I understand, the only solution is to run a Windows XP repair. However, I don't have a Windows CD to use, only my Vaio recovery CDs.
My questions -- are there any other solutions I may be overlooking? If not, I plan on running a recovery, but I need to back up my DATA. Is there a way to back up to an external hard drive without being able to access Windows?
THANK you in advance! - pwapilotSee Here... As far as doing a repair install of the system which will LEAVE your data intact all you need to do is borrow an XP CD...the version and installed service packs need to match. Repair Install of XP
